Maybe it can be copied from the .con-files under the profile you use to have?[JiF]Sgt Shellshocked wrote:... This means that when I go into BF 42 I have to create my custom profile all over again (name , controls buddy list etc) ....

Re: Game Freezes (Multiplayer)
Regarding Firewall and anti virus I have switched them all off and the problem still persists , I think that many more WIN 7 people will be reporting this problem when they install latest windows updates..
Yes Rix you can indeed copy from your old files if you save them first but make sure that if you copy them back in that the ownership/permissions are correct (I actually use this method but I didn't want to complicate the issue)
I have my suspicions about this latest Windows update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2272691 but I have rolled back my system to a month earlier and I still have the problem so I'm not sure. I expect a lot of forum activity on other BF42 forums soon when the s@!t hits the fan

Re: Game Freezes (Multiplayer)
Nevertheless Geordie have you tried the workaround yet? We Win 7 users run BF42 in Windows XP compatibility mode anyway.

Re: Game Freezes (Multiplayer)
1. I deleted the Custom-folder as Shell descibed above.
2. Started the game, looked in the file-systems that a new Cusom-folder with files had been created.
3. Copied the Controls-folder and most of the-con-files from the profile I use to play with
to the Custom folder where these files and folders where replaced. (Maybe u should restart BF1942 here)
4. I changed name/alias on the profile to my ordinary "[JiF]rix(R)".
5. So now it works fine, the only trick is that to "Add" server according to shells instruction above.
I guess the server or whatever handling the list of all servers is broken?

Re: Game Freezes (Multiplayer)
Same problem here - and I'd also think it's the server list host that is unreachable. Deleting and recreating complete profiles isn't really necessary, though. All you need to do is delete or rename the two server list files (standard & favs) for that profile, then the existing profile will work again, so one can add the server address manually as a temporary fix, until that server list host will be available again (hopefully...).

P.S.: Bad programming nevertheless, it seems. Game client shouldn't freeze, but come up with an error message...

Re: Game Freezes (Multiplayer)
Yes Rix it looks like the problem is with the gateway server that provides the BF42 online servers is either tempoarily down or has been stopped (I hope not) because Geordie has the same problem running native Win XP and no amount of win update rollbacks solves the problem. Does anyone in the USA have no issues at the moment because it may just be a connectivity problem from Europe. I also noticed that although bf42 freezes it eventually (30 seconds in my case) does come back and at that point you can enter the server ip manually as discussed before.

I just stopped by the CKUA Server and spoke to "Tookie Goodnite" he is based in Dallas and runs Win XP and has had the same problem so it's a global problem. They normally have a large crowd on their server but he was the only one there. He has posted a link to our forum for the workaround. I did a bit more research and it appears that the bf42 servers are listed by Gamespy , I went to their site but could not find anything about what might be happening. I hope that this is only a temporary problem because if not it will seriously impact the number of new players joining BF42.

Re: Game Freezes (Multiplayer)
Same here (I'm on Win 7), Game locked as soon as I clicked multiplayer-internet
I had to create a new profile to use the tag, then use Shell's work around.
GJ Shell, hopefully there will be a more permanent fix!

I'm hoping that whoever maintains the bf42 server dns or gateway will get it back online , I don't think it's punkbuster but I'm gonna check that out

Re: Game Freezes (Multiplayer)
I found something out:
When I hit "Internet" the game crashed - so I thought. But it did not crash. You only have to wait 20 oder 30 sec and then it works again.

Re: Game Freezes (Multiplayer)
It looks as if the list of BF 42 servers is maintained by Gamespy and is known as the - Gamespy Master Server List , I have noticed that some other games are having the same problem , not just BF1942 , I hope that Gamespy will remedy this , I am still trying to find more information on this.
Yes it looks like it's the Gamespy Master Server that's down , other games are having similar problems. I also found where this has happend in the past ( 1yr ago)
Here is a link to some of todays posts at Gamespy http://forums.gamespy.com/gaming_discus ... 9060/p1/?1
and another http://forums.gamespy.com/action_gaming ... 1291/p1/?1
I feel confident that they will sort this out soon
