The Americans have it right once more and have kept the English name as it was in the 19th century.
You guys across the pond were the first to call Football ,Soccer.
We may have lost out on the Soccer World Cup but, knowing that Football is Soccer is good enough.

lol Corn, thankyou for enlightening us! My favourite quote from the first article:
"So forget that English condescension and carry on calling it soccer, safe in the knowledge that you’re more in tune with the roots of the sport than those mocking Brits."
However, we must also remember that the game WAS indeed known as Football by the early British & European sportsmen, and the word "soccer" was only a nickname derived from the institution setup to standardise the rules and leagues. (Association Football)
In light of this information, we respectfully request our American friends to officially change the name of their national sport to something more fitting and relevant to the game, such as Lycra-Ball or even something like "American Cricket" , because a 60 minute game seems to take 8 hours to complete with all the time-outs and intervals

Nah, that's the olden days. Now you sit in a big crowd drinking loads of pints then stacking all the empties together to make a great big tower & passing it round the crowd. Problem is not all the glasses are empty & when it collapses a lot of stale beer goes flying. The other part of the game is to keep the stack away from the stewards for as long as possible as they try to spoil the party!![JiF]Uncle Stinky wrote:But we don't wear white sweaters and drink Pyms.
