You could settle down with this, non-complex, cheap computer!

Not meaning to hijack your thread, but;

I'm getting a new computer around august, and I have som options with a reasonable price (Will post some links soon, just have to find them xD)

From 4/6 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce GT220 1GB graphics card. But, I don't understand the CPU.

I want to play BFBC2 with you, so answer based on BC2's requirments and how long it will last (So i don't have to upgrade things in the near future)

1. What's the difference between Intel i3, i5 & i7?
2. AMD or Intel? Or any other?
3. Is 3,0 - 3,20 GHz necessary?
4. Is there a big difference from 2,66 GHz - 2,9 GHz? (3,00 - 3,20)

Aliemware Area 51 :shock: It won the Best Gaming Desktop award. :razz:

I need 3.0GHz processor to run 2142. A guy tipsed me that 2142 ran 100% smoother/better when he changed his 2.7GHz AMD Athlon II X4 to a 3.0GHz AMD Athlon II X4.

BTW, i tried 2142 on grandma and grandpa's laptop. The gameplay were horribly laggy on the 1.79GHz processor but every map loaded in 30 secs! What makes maps/game load faster?

I dunno what the difference is between Intel and AMD. I just want a cheap part. I need RAM, Videocard and processor. The maincard(?) is planned.

You'll be just fine with an AMD CPU for gaming. Intel might perform a little better but you'll pay a lot more.You can get the top of the line AMD for a fraction of the Intel.

1. The i3 and i5 are virtually the same, they are both dual cores. The i5 just has the Turbo Boost tech that overlocks the cpu when you need it. The i7's are the new quad cores that also have the turbo boost.
2. AMD is still a great company, they make good processors that are affordable. If you looking for budget I'd go with a cheaper AMD that can be overclocked easily. That way you get more bang for your buck.
3. Depends on what you need it for, for games, faster is always better.
4. There is probably a small/fractional difference here, for games its always better to have more processing power to help against stuttering or anything like that. I only run a 2.3 quad core and it runs BC2 flawlessly.

Gnome-Father, whats your budget like? I would check out newegg's DIY combos and see if they have any in the range/quality that you want. If not you can always piece a setup together. Putting a PC together is the easiest thing to do, it would be a waste of money to go with an alienware unless you have the cash to spare. Here's the link...

http://www.newegg.com/Store/MasterCombo ... -PC-Combos" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here is a great DIY combo. AMD 6-core processor (2.8ghz), 4gB ram, 1TB HD. This combo is only $650, only thing else that is needed is a DVD drive (around $20) and a graphics card. You could have a computer that will last you awhile for around $1000.

Ahhh! That's right. Well those are all great parts, you shouldn't have any problems with them.

I don't have those parts, sorry :P

I'm also looking for a new computer so I posted it here so I could find out what's good. And to show you parts I've found from NetShop. It comes as a whole package, but it's many options to choose from (Except the CPU).

The parts I chose got a price of 8048kr (1243$). It's maybe expensive for.... non-norwegians xD, but it doesn't matter. With the 25% tax from customs and shipping it would cost pretty much the same if it got shipped from another country.

This is a great build, but you might want to see about how much power those cards will consume. If you're running a high-end cpu, large amounts of ram, big HD, and two GPUs it might overload the PSU. It never hurts to get a nice sized PSU or to spend a little bit more on a name brand. 650W should be enough but it never hurts to get more, just leaves room for more upgrades.
