The Pacific (HBO)

Post by [JiF]Trogdor »

Is anyone else as excited for this as I am? New series from HBO on the pacific theater of WW2. Instead of focusing on the Army like Band of Brothers, this one follows the Marine Corps. It appears to be based off two books written by Marines, and will showcase the battles of Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima among others. One thing I've read (and is unconfirmed) is that one ENTIRE episode of the 10-part series will be devoted to a single battle, from start to finish. Should be pretty amazing. Here's a trailer:

Starts March 14! :shoot:

I'll bet I am more excited about it than you are.
My father was in the USMC and fought at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and other campaigns which will be featured in the early episodes.

I hope it is as good as the Band of Brothers.

It is being made by the same people that made Band of Brothers, so I bet it'll be good. I might have to get HBO just so I can watch this, I've been looking forward to it since I heard about it a few months ago.

Can't wait to see this! I wonder if they'll mention Lt Winters (from Band of Brothers). If I remember correctly, I'm sure he left to fight in the Pacific after capturing the Eagles Nest.

for those with a less than scrupulous moral constitution who don't habve pay TV you could do worse than visit ProjectTV.net where many popular shows are available to watch from streaming hosts

I too can not wait. I have already signed up for HBO to have it in time. I just might have to take a look at what Zouga talked about though.

Right. He ended up taking a job with Lewis Nixson at a nitration works plant and ended up the manager. He developed and patented an animal feed and made enough coin to retire back on a farm and lives there to this day. There's a great book on just him called Biggest Brother, by Larry Alexander. It's FAR better than the Band of Brothers book... I found that one relied too much on quotes and sources from other books, and read more like a term paper. This one has anecdotal stories from the man himself, and is a much more entertaining read.

Also, to Zouga's point, eztv.it is a good resource for HD shows.... though they take a while to download.
