Yup, guess that makes me old now.
As Tissue said, it really was an amazing experience mostly because there really hadn't been anything
like it until then. It was realistic, gritty, rich in characters and plot...not the usual experience to
that point! It really was a ground-breaker.

I loved "the time machine" as well!! I remember watching it when I was so young and impressionable that I cried when the people who lived above ground wouldn't do anything to save the girl what was drowning.... lol :(

Galactica is on the left side...kinda small. I did note there ws no Death Star. Perhaps it is as big as the whole page?

Buckaroo Banzai !!!!!!
I was beginning to think I was the only one to see this movie!

Another one I saw in the theater when it came out...fantastic
movie!! I own it on DVD.

Interesting to note that Peter Weller (think RoboCop for those too
young to remember Buckaroo) is now a noted historian and teaches
at Syracuse University. He's also on the History channel now with a
series called Rome: Engineering an Empire.

omg...

that movie was voted as one of THEE WORST of all time!!!

I think in 13 states it's even illegal to mention its title in public.... ;)

How bout the Terminator, or T2??

LT

ps. I think you have to separate out scifi from horror or fantasy (Aliens would fit under scifi, not horror, for example and Texas Chainsaw Mass would be horror).
way too many "bests" in each category....

btw... May the Schwartz be with u!!! :)

Have you actually seen it?
I'm not sure why it was voted worst...
it was tongue-in-cheek- very smart/funny.

I remember Buckaroo and Forbidden Planet. Talking about theaters I remember watching Star Wars at the drive-in when it first came out. Another one I remember watching at the drive-in when it came out was Creature From The Blacklagoon. I miss the drive-ins they was a lot of fun. I seen many sci-fi, horror, comedy and many others at our local drive-in. I know it kinda tells my age.

Some of us are that old. I saw Star Wars when it first opened in Seattle. It was a life changing experience for many. Was my birthday present. I too stood in line for an hour.

Yes, I have seen it... can't remember where I saw it being rated like crap. It was one of those "marathon" shows, like Top 100 or Worst 100 of all time type shows.

Timmay, plz look at those so-called "awards/nominations" listed - almost like saying I was
voted for "the prettiest turd in the toilet award".... ;)

Not sure what else was happening in '84 either (maybe a really crappy year). John Lithgow was probably only nominated due to his name-power... :)

I'm such an instigator......
