Best Sci-Fi movie...or at least your favorites

Post by [JiF]KellysHero »

It can be Sci/Fi - horror, Sci-Fi - comedy, etc...

We can eliminate the easy ones, Star Wars, Star Trek (at least a couple of them) and the Aliens series...besides those.

In the Sci/Fi - Comedy category I watched Space Quest the other day, forgot how funny that was.

Not really on topic but, I read somewhere recently they are planning/making a movie version of "The Foundation" by Isaac Asimov. I look forward to this.

Figured an architect would be into "The Foundation", think it'll be block or slab? Basement?

Is SciFi - Fantasy included as well?

if so, I take it (just like Star Wars), that the LOTR will have to be eliminated out of the choices??

Serenity and Blade Runner are two of my favorites. And the Alien movie with the Marines - great small unit tactics.

hmmmm saw the topic and I couldn't resist the temptation to reply

without thinking it through too much:

Starship Troopers
5th element
Total Recall
Lost in Space
Mario Brothers
The Abyss

I also liked Dune... but it's been so long I don't remember anything from it.

The Dune movie by David Lynch, even in the extended directors cut, was actually awful compared to the book. The Sci-Fi mini series did a much better job but still fell short of the mark.

Going back a few years, I often think back on "Andromeda Strain" as one of my favorite sci fi movies.

The classics of course, that've already been mentioned.
But more recently, I thought Serenity was amazing.

...and of the classics, Starship Troopers was hard to
beat for pure entertainment value.

The original Star Wars will always be my favorite
though- standing on line for an hour to see it in the
theater for the first time...blew my mind.

Yep. Some of us did. It was great. Totally changed SciFi. I still remember watching the faces of the rebel troops as the Imperial Stormtroopers cut through the door. They showed fear and weren't all muscled hunks drug out of a gym. Then you looked at the Starfighters and it reminded me of the aircraft on the flightline. They weren't all pretty and shiny, but had been used.

I have watched a lot of Sci-fi movies over the years and the original "War of the Worlds" is probably one of my favorites.
Maybe not the best I have seen, but one I never forgot and have watched many times over the years. I think for its time it was great. Another one would be the old version of "The Time Machine".
