Remote Desktop Connection

Post by [JiF]KellysHero »

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get my new system that I built for the review setup with my programs and start using it. I was hoping to run a KVM switch, but they seem to have a problem with USB mouses, and to get one with DVI for the video I'm looking at $90+. So I thought I'd use Window's Remote Desktop Connection instead and/or just explore to bring across my programs. The two systems are connected via my router and while I can find them with network neighbors, I can't connect. It wants a password but I never set one. Help...

Oh using XP and XPMC on the two computers.

I'm finding more by exploring, but I just want to be sure only my two systems can do it and I'm not open to the entire net. Not that I've ever configured my router properly....but that's another post.

Do you have RDP enabled on the host PC? Rightclick properties of MY COMPUTER (XP Pro), go to the Remote tab, check off RDP, and assign it a user. Then try to access it from the other pc.

It's enabled, think it's an issue in the assigning a user. Still messing with it though.

Is it enabled and set to accept remote connections??

edit: hm.. xp is different than win2k3, i think.. Had a bug recently where we validated that rdp was enabled. Sadly, being enabled doesn't mean it will actually let people in.

Server 2003 will only let an admin in, unless it is configured as a terminal services system and has the M$ licenses installed. XP will allow one "non-admin" at a time. Normally the admin accout is automatically allowed access if it's turned on.
