Good old GM and FORD have decided to stop sourcing parts from local companies in favour of more exotic locations. The layoffs were announced in the last week of November – too late for us (I own a small chocolate/gift shop) to cancel our Christmas orders and actually started during the first week in December (just in time to effect Christmas sales), we find ourselves stuck with excess inventory and no way to move the goods. Of course when the tax people notice the growth in my inventory they’ll see it as a non-cash profit and want a share. They generally won’t care that sales are way off from last December.
Can't you sell off your excess inventory no Ebay? Set the bin low to move it fast and close the deals on Sunday to avoid the Tax Man. And let people around here know what to look for. :)

Ya know if Dickens used your story instead of Scrooge's 'Bah Humbug' would be a helluva lot more accepted this time of year.

Wow, this thread has been busy. I'm off visiting my brother for the holidays so I haven't been keeping up with the forums. In keeping with spirit of the season we left for Ottawa at noon on Christmas day. I've never traveled on Christmas so it never occurred to me that people like to take the day off. After six hours of driving we found our first open store/gas station and I bought a coffee. The pot had been on the burner since Christmas Eve but according to the sales girl she had freshened it every couple of hours (?). Despite that it tasted great – meaning that it didn’t kill me.

As we drove my little boy started to cough, by the time we had arrived he was getting pretty sick with flu. We had planned to take him to the Science and Technology museum as well as the Museum of Flight but I doubt he feel well enough to go before we have to return home. Sigh, I was really looking forward to seeing his face when he saw his first steam engine. He’s been a big Thomas fan and we were going to play on the “steamies”. The Christmas curse is now a family tradition. Hopefully he’ll be able to go tomorrow.

When I started this thread I wasn’t looking for help. I was just venting. I’ve been doing the stiff upper lip thing for years and needed a place to whine. When you are a business person living in a small town it is difficult to talk about any issues you’re having with your friends or other business owners. Small businesses can be destroyed by the mere rumor of problems and in small towns those rumors can start fast and spread quickly. I appreciate that offers of help but I doubt you guys have a pressing need for scented candles or chocolate covered Ginger. In any case shipping cost are prohibitive.

I’ll try to check in before I hit the road again. Have a good new years.

Really I just wanted some candy made by a Large Wooden Badger in Canada.
Then I get to eat it and tell my family that I have candy from a Large Wooden Badger in Canada.
I don't need much of an excuse to buy candy

Now if I could eat some candy made by a Large Wooden Badger in Canada with Ginger on an island, it would be like heaven.
Actually I though Maryann was prettier. Tissue man always had the hots for Mrs. Thurston Howell III. Dunno if it was just for her money or not.

Someone really needs to talk to a therapist. I suggest you spend at least 2 hours everyday talking to yourself. It certainly can't hurt.
