Roleplaying games
Hey guys!
We've been talking about books, strategy games and new releases latelay. But I'd like to know what RPGs you like - in case you like them at all.
What I played so far:
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 (Bioware, 2003), set several thousand years before the plot from the movies, offers a lot of ways to influence the storyline by your own decisions, tons of gear and abilities
- Spellforce 2 (Phenomic, 2006), phantasy world including humans, elves, dwarfs, etc... , mix of RPG and real time strategy (RTS), nice map design, good inventory/skill management system
- Mass effect (Bioware again , 2008), Sci-Fi (set 2183), saving the universe as a human Space Navy commander with the help and against about a dozen alien species, great graphics, fighting done like in a 3rd person shooter, very detailled and believable world
I can recommend all three of them. Maybe you also got some experiences or recommendations you want to share.
Kyle

Re: Roleplaying games
RPGs rock! I've played Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic 1 (KOTOR) and KOTOR 2. My opinion is that they're both fun to play, but #2 is more entertaining than #1. But i like the story better on #1. So it's hard to choose a favourite.
I cant wait to play Star Wars: The Old Republic - It's online!
If you like KOTOR 1, you should try KOTOR 2. But not everyone enjoys KOTOR 2 as much as i do.
Spellforce 2 sounds good. Can you post the computer requirements?
Mass Effect sounds also good, but my computer cant stand most of the games from 2008.

I looked it up, it says (at least!): Pentium IV 1,5 GHz, 512 MB RAM, DirectX 9.0c, Windows XP/ME/2000[JiF]Cesar wrote:Spellforce 2 sounds good. Can you post the computer requirements?

But as you know, it's always better to have a bit more. Would be great if that worked, it's just a great game.
About Mass Effect: Since BG42 already pushes your PC to the limit, buying or downloading it could get pretty frustrating...

Re: Roleplaying games
Well, you could give it a try of course but in any way I'd suggest you first download it (don't know if there's a demo available) and try it. Could be wasted money otherwise. If you're interested in the full version (it's about 11 GB) contact me via PM. But I guarantee for nothing!

Re: Roleplaying games
Ahem....
Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 are both quite amazing, if you dont mind the D&D 3.5 system. Great stories, especially the Hordes of the Underdark expansion for NWN1.
Yes, I LOVED KotoR 1 and 2. Both will always be on top for me.
Elder Scrolls 3 is a lot of fun. I havent played any of the others yet, though.
Fable II is AMAZING!! Nothing is more awesome then running around with a pistol and katana, throwing fireballs, and having wild parties. Heheh...
Fallout 3 is hilarious, but very adult oriented
However, my favorite RPG of all time is so far Final Fantasy 6, the original SNES version. Full of some of the coolest characters, an amazing storyline, and, of course, the greatest villain ever: Kefka ^_^
Now, for table-top stuff, I highly recommend Feng Shui, Cyberpunk 2020, and Mutants & Masterminds. Also, if ya wanna get really geeky, Vampire: The Requiem.

Re: Roleplaying games
I've always been a Starwars fan so I have been supporting Lucasarts for what seems like forever. Kotor 1 & 2 are good games, but I have always been a Final Fantasy fan (never got to play FF6). I started with Final Fantasy on the NES, then the next that I really enjoyed was FF7 on the PSX, I still have the disks and play it now through an emulator along with Final Fantasy Tactics. I bought FF8 & 9 but never completed them. FF10 & 12 for the PS2 are fun too.
I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Re: Roleplaying games
I haven't played anything after 8, but then again, I was severally disappointed with 8. And wasnt even that impressed with 7. While the story was good and all, as was gameplay...Cloud and Aerith hurt the game for me. Cloud at first because he was a whiney, mopey lil emo kid that needed to just suck it up. lol. And Aerith because they did a blah sort of job trying to get you to like this character just for the drama when they kill her. Now, if it had been a better thought out Aerith, then sure, I could see that being amazing. But I was happy to see her go.
And yes, get 6. Especially if you can find the SNES version that had the original Japanese fan-translated into English. MUCH better than the Woody translations. Kefka makes far more sense in his rantings and murder speeches =)

Re: Roleplaying games
Oh come on now, you mean to tell me that out of all us old farts no one has ever played Dungeons & Dragons?
Well I use to play many moons ago, and I enjoyed the heck out of it.
It's just to bad I had to grow up (so to speak LOL!!! )
Because many were the days that we would sit around the table playing, using butter knives for sword sound effects LMAO!!!

Re: Roleplaying games
I'm not too fond of D&D. It's okay, especialyl 3.5, but D&D 4 is just horrible to the nth degree. There are far better systems that are more about Roleplaying and less about number-crunching
Re: Roleplaying games
I have alot of great memories playing pen and paper d&d. You probably will think I am full of it but back in 90-93 the gaming group I DM'd actually invented a d20 like system. How I would love to get a group going. Would anyone be interested in buying a common software that allows players to connect and play over a virtual table top? Battlegrounds is one: http://www.battlegroundsgames.com. Another is https://www.fantasygrounds.com/store/pr ... ?id=DGA040
One system that I love but had to modify it to make it right is Savage Worlds. Its sort of like d&d 3.5 edition but quicker and less number crunching. There's a test drive rules out there at Pinnacle's web site that you can down load and check out the rules.
I can DM/GM but would also like to play. Let me know if interested.

Re: Roleplaying games
If you're near Vegas, I'm running a Feng Shui game
Yeah, Savage Worlds is pretty neat. Only did a one-shot on it, but I liked it
