Anyone have any luck tricking Windows 7 into letting you play BF42?

It plays great, just not on Punkbuster enabled servers.
Evenbalance won't release a patch untill Windows 7 goes public in the late fall.

This was the line that caught my attentionThe company says Windows XP Mode will be offered as a free download to users running Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise - the three highest priced versions of the operating system.

Yes this is obviously done with the business user in mind, not the johnny going to use it at home type. I mean the home user wouldn't have any need for this would they?

Re: Windiws 7
Well now, which business runs BF1942 on their computers ? Besides Mike that is
Re: Windiws 7
Ok I have Windows 7 Pro RTM and I will post my current experience below:
System Information
Intel Quad Core @ 2.4GHz
8GB DDR2 Ram
7 Pro x64
256mb 7900GS
Windows XP Mode
As the screen shot shows below, it doesn't emulate the graphics card, and BF1942 falls over epically. Compatibility Mode
Winbloze 7 has better compat modes than vista (see below). By setting it to XP SP3 & Ensuring it runs with admin rights I get very few problems. I will experiment with other options later on. For those who are getting 7 Home premium, there is no need to worry about Windows XP Mode, its basically just a virtual machine that has 'advanced features' so installed programs appear in your normal start menu. Personally, I will be sticking to VmWare Workstation! (Also a quick note, Running XPmode, whilst having Workstation on the go causes all VMs to crash, something to do with CPU locking...).
After further testing, BF1942 works best with SP2 setting rather than SP3. Only one ctd as of yet.

Re: Windiws 7
The giant rumor is that anything running on Vista will run on 7. How have you Vista users fared so far?
XP mode is exactly as described - it's a built-in virtual machine designed with Windows XP as the machine. It's not going to be quite as robust as VMware, but it will get the job done in an enterprise setting.
We aren't going to upgrade to 7 where I work... we're probably going to remain with XP for years to come. My laptop is running Vista-64 just fine, and if it's Win7 compatible, it's Vista-compatible in my book. It begs the question, though - Who here plans to upgrade to Win7 shortly after release? Are you waiting, like me, for SP1 before you switch?

Re: Windiws 7
I would just upgrade if i were you. 7 is basically vista but edited slightly, it runs on the same framework as vista so there is 'nothing new' in the way it runs as such. Also, when it comes out on 22nd Oct, there will be a few updates as its been out on technet/education since aug 15th.
Go for it!
Go for it!

Re: Windiws 7
Old thread but I'm a bit behind... I've been using Win7 for about a week now and must admit I love it. I did not recommend upgrading to Vista from XP when it came out but I will probably suggest people upgrade now, especially if they are already running Vista. As for where I work...the jury is still out. My pc was the only one running Vista, but I do have a few machines I downgraded to XP just to keep things easier on the users. Not sure I want to manage a bunch of pc's that are running different versions of Windows. More testing is required!

Re: Windiws 7

Good news! Thanks Mike.[JiF]Mike wrote:I can tell you bf42 works on WIndows 7. Though I have not been able to get bg42 to work.
I can go ahead & choose my new all singing all dancing notebook. The one I was supposed to be getting is staying out on the project which was supposed to be for 3 months.
Still I can now get a new one with W7 preinstalled instead of having to go the trash vista & start again route.
