Well I got my new vid cards yesterday. I got me a GTX260 and a 9600GSO to put in my main machine. I'll run the graphics off the 260 and then the PHYSX off the 9600. I had thought about running the PHYSX off my 9800 GX2 but that would prob be a little overkill. Might try it out anyways to see if it makes a difference in the bench marks.
Right now I'm running my 9800 GX2 for vid and my 8600 GT for PHYSX and it makes a difference when you run the PHYSX on a card all by itself.

Re: New vid cards
I must admit I didn't understand what this was all about so I looked it up and wow how interesting...
PhysX processing is solely used to delivering physical gaming environments. Some of the features it's capable of doing are:
* Explosions that cause dust and collateral debris
* Characters with complex, jointed geometries for more life-like motion and interaction
* Spectacular new weapons with incredible effects
* Cloth that drapes and tears the way you would expect it to
* Dense smoke & fog that billow around objects in motion
All that stuff can now be calculated over the GPU and is done much faster on it than a CPU.
The article about PhysX can be found here...

Thanks Shellshocked for helping me close my dropped jaw. Nice to understand what it is.

Something else that will help you understand the difference is go watch the Mirrors Edge videos. There is a Mirrors Edge video that runs a standard and a PHYSX view side by side so you can see the difference. Also you can check out more about PHYSX at Nvidia.

This is only an Nvidia deal so you poor ATI guys will just have to do with out.

I'm not so sure about that. Give us 6 months, we'll reverse engineer it and make it cheaper for you.[JiF]Lonewolf wrote:This is only an Nvidia deal so you poor ATI guys will just have to do with out.
That's an interesting thought. I've also been reading about how you can use GPU processing to enhance your CPU or RAM speeds... though it doesn't sound like it's 100% thought through. Maybe that's just me. Of course, 640k should be more than enough for anybody.

ATI isn't smart enuf to do something like this. Most die hard ATI users can't grasp the concept of this setup but when I was running my 9800 GX2 and then later added my 8600 GTX for the Physx I gained almost 4000 points on 3dmark. I haven't had time to bench these new cards yet but hope to before to long. The start of all of this came from a company called Physx which made an add-in card to process the Physx part of the game then Nvidia bought them out and done away with the extra card and built it right in on the vid cards to be more efficient.[JiF]angrybunny wrote:I'm not so sure about that. Not quite. Ageia Technologies was the name of the company. PhysX is the name of the "product"...[JiF]Lonewolf wrote: (...) The start of all of this came from a company called Physx (...)

Yeah Ageia was the company, Thanks. I have no idea why I said Physx was the company as I knew it was Ageia as I had followed the advancements of Ageia since they started. One of the best games to show case the Physx is Frontlines Fuel of War. There is a list of games on Nvidias site that is made to take full use of the Physx.[JiF]lini wrote:Not quite.
