I have seen this before & think it's because if the plane comes near the ground the wheels automatically lower so then think they have run over a mine & kaboom!
A nice kill for the engy, but not if you haven't got out of the way in time.
Definitely one to remember though if you play that class & you get a pilot that is coming in to buzz you low.

Yeah, i was on El Alamein in a spitfire and axis had control of the east outpost. Then an engy had layed mines al over the place and i didnt see it. But then i spotted a german guy in the open, and i thought

Muahahahahahahaha!

And i tried to wing clip him and poof! A mine got me....
