Monitor

Post by [JiF]Mentat »

Well I have worked through all three monitors from my office and they all have died. The one I am looking at now is flickering (started this morning).

Anybody have new monitors they want to brag about or recommend? I was looking at a Flat LCDbut am open to any suggestions. I was even thinking of buying 2 VGA monitors because they are so cheap but they don't seem to make any large ones any more. I might just wait until after the holiday for a better deal.

I dearly love my 19" Dell LCD...but I understand things
and prices have changed a bit since I bought mine.
Seems to me there's a thread or two around the forums
about this very subject...

LCD's are very affordable these days and unless you've got eyes that are super sensitive to blur (like Crash) most offer a good gaming and video experience these days. The Dell LCD's are still king in my book, but the Samsungs are very good too.

I like Crash was allergic to the LCD blur. I did notice some on mine, but it probably only took one round of playing for me to get over it.
Maybe it is just not that bad on my LCD. The graphics quality on the one I have as compared to my Dell low end CRT is amazing.
Which has probably nothing to do with the fact that its LCD its just a better monitor.

Crash was definitely much more sensitive to it then I was. A good friend of mine bought a really cheap LCD about two years back. The blur was so bad I was actually getting ill watching him play BF. He was like, "What Blur, there isn't any blur." It is definitely a person by person thing.

Widescreen killer for Mentat. You may not like the way BF 1942 games look on widescreen. I know you love FH and I have had a lot of issues getting the widescreen to look good on BF 1942. The in game text looks horrible on mine, almost ureadable at times. I may not have got it working correctly yet, but on mine its ugly. Game graphics seem okay. Maybe a little distorted demesion wise, but they look pretty good.

I knew I should have amended that one before posting it...
Couldn't resist eh Dave? ;)

In any case, I didn't notice any distortion on mine, and mine
is 19" (!)
(Top that Dave!)

I don't really want to discuss the size of my Johnson Step, so lets keep this on a technical level.
At my age and marital status its really a non-issue anyway.

My monitor is 19" wide screen - native resolution is 1440 x 900. BF 1942 likes squares not rectangles.
Go into your BF 1942 or any BF for that matter and try to select 1440 X 900 in the video section :)
Your are suppose to be able to change it by adding switches to your BF shortcut.
BF 2 and BF 2142 don't have wide screen built into the menu either, but they seem to handle the forced change much better.
As I said before it maybe that I am not setting up the BF 1942 correctly.

Text and graphics on my desktop and in BF 2 and Bf 2142 are excellent. Just BF 1942 things are strange.

I like my 20" widescreen ViewSonic, I had a Samsung 19" 4:3 but the buttons got screwed up and made the menu came up at random times...BF2142 looks sick on it!~

Thanks for all the input everyone. Just a follow up. I could not deal with my current monitor flickering anymore and was wary of the wide screen format. I went with this one. SAMSUNG 931C
