Christmas just around the corner. BF2142?

Post by [JiF]Dandyman »

It is highly likely that I'll be getting some gift cards for Christmas. Should I get BF2142?

How is the performance of the game?
Is it a technical upgrade over BF2?
Is it a gameplay upgrade over BF2?
What is the adoption rate within JiF?

Relatively low adoption rate.
It's not a technical upgrade over BF2- more of a mod.
Gameplay is about the same only with new toys- though
the Titan mode is somewhat different/fun.

This being said, I do like it. I just haven't played much
because of time and lack of JiF'ers.
When I actually get time it's easier to jump on the vanilla
server for a few rounds...and fun too!

Is it fun? Yes.
Is it worth $50? I don't think so unless you have not bought the others. I got it for $25 at Best Buy after T-day.
Is it technically any better than BF2?
  • Not that I can tell really tell.
Performance wise it seems a little more demanding than BF2, but I would say very little.
It does have an in game browser buddy system which I like.
It feels like they kept all the bugs from the first 3 or at least re-introduced the ones they fixed in each of the first 3 (to be patched later).
To make it seem newer they added a couple new variations of the old bugs.
It has cool round bombs that chase enemy vehicles.
You have to earn everything. Need a toothpick you have to increase your rank.
You can somewhat customize your players inventory.
When you knife someone you can take their dogtags. I don't know what use it is, but its fun ownage. I have collected one and have given out a lot.
It has giant 2 man robots.
You can kick up so much dirt with the vehicle mounted weapons the enemy can hide in it. I actually like that.
I really die much faster and more often then the earlier 3.
It has the new Titan game mode which is okay. Gives you open field and close up personal combat in the same round.
Support can earn and auto-turret like TFC and they suck until I earn one.
You have much more fun if you can get a squad to work together, but thats the same as all of the versions.
You get to see Intel ads on the bill boards.
The artillery is even scarier than BF2.
Again I think its fun and really thats the bottom line, but other than the new toys about as much fun as BF2

Hmmm. I think if a $50 gift card comes my way from a store that sells it I might give it a whirl.

Any other thoughts?

What Grimp said is the same for me.

I have been doing some serious playing since Evenbalance had figured out the prob on the O/S privalige kicks.
The Titan mode gameplay will earn you faster rankups then the conquest mode.
Also if you join a squad you earn points for that also.
There is some many different little things that earn you points which makes it easy to get your unlocks.
I have 6 unlocks right now to choose and I got 4 of them in about 2 hours of gameplay in Titan mode Wensday.
I play a lot of support and if your in a vehicle or walker and someone jumps in it automatically fills up their ammo and gives you points for that.
If your on the Titan when it is being destroyed you get points for that.

All in all its a mod but with new toys like Grimp said but its fun. I played the Conquest mode a couple of times but its not as fun as the Titan mode.

Yes thats a good point you get credit for things even if you are not very good.
I can unload a clip on an enemy hit him one time and he kills me. Somebody who has l33t skills can then kill him and I get an assist.
Defend a flag you get points.
Be in the area when you squad does something and you get points.
Hit a vehicle with a non-killer mine, friendly vehicle takes it out. You get points.
You can also get field upgrades when your squad is doing well. I think the last untill you leave the server or squad.
Makes me feel important

Any good tips for either playing an engineer or support? Or links to some guides since I'm going to start playing...
