Joystick... hehe....

Post by [JiF]Cesar »

K, if you buy a joystick :hihi: , does it really help you fly at battlefield?
What is the catch at buying one, does it weaken your skill at ground?

here take a look at that

the thing with the joystick is that u only use it for flying and not for the infantry combat. i got mine for xmass and its just awsome its way easier and allot of fun.

Hey Cesar, I feel guilty  in this by commenting your flying in gameplay (good but could have some improvement :) ), sorry about that.
Your good in ground and deserve to be better in air.

Ok, i looked in my favourite hardware/gaming store and i found these two:

The Logitech is the one most recommende here(?), but the Saitek is better, well thats what written in the text. It has more buttons, better design, both joysticks has force feedback, a SHIFT- button, i can change the height on the Saitek, the Saitek has 4 more buttons than the Logitech and the Saitek cost more money than the Logitech so it has to be better!

allright to make it short. the extem 3 d pro is what most bf 42 players have. in the jif team i think4 or5 of us have it.
it is easy to handle and has everything u need on it. actually the 3d pro doesnt have forcefeed back but thats ok cause bf1942 does not run with force feedback anyways :)

i looked into allot of posts and from what i could see noone likes the saitek, cool design but not really good for long time gaming.

ps: make sure u get a joystick with cable, not one that uses bluetooth, cause long time gaming is better without having to swich the batteries in the middle of a dog fight

I got the logitech.
Do not worry about how many programmable buttons. As in BF42 you are only going to use it for flying, the number of buttons you need is very limited so button number is not too much of a concern in purchase decision.
The only problem I get with my stick is on the secondary weapon. It sometimes changes the name of the button in the setup & I have to remember to progamme the game everytime before I start.

1st and 2nd weapon
(Enter/)exit vehicle
parachute (very good to have)
Small map-zoom
Big map
Views (=F9-F12?)

The logitech has a small meta joystick on the top (X)

All of my buttons are assigned as shown in the picture, I have the little stick on top assigned to the F buttons, so if I push it forward its F1, Back is F2, Right F3 and Left F4,
this means as you are flying you can spot out the enemy with just a flick of the thumb or answer +ve or -ve to ppl.
This stick has 9 positions if you include clicking it down so you can assign all of the F keys if you want, I also have some of the shoulder keys (Misc) assigned for yes/no .

I have found that having a backup key for the chute especially means it works more often than not,
If you bail at low altitude pressing '9' is usually a waste of finger power, but the joystick button works nearly every time.

go ahead and get one Cesar, you won't regret it

Good plan Z-man.
With a set up like that I could fly one handed & wouldn't have to put my bottle of beer down then

Funnily enough that was exactly my reasoning too
