Drive Problems
Ok my geniuses!!! A new one for ya:
Neither my CD-ROM nor my DVD-ROM drives are working now.
Background info:
The DVD-ROM won't even open/close. No light comes on. Had to use a paperclip to get drive door to open.
The CD-ROM opens/closes and light flashes when disk is put in. However, it will not "boot up" the disk (aka BF1942).
It's like the drive is not being recognized to even where a disk is in it.
I had a problem earlier today and had to go into my setup utilities (gave me a message on startup of computer that neither my secondary drive o or 1 could be found. Kept making me choose F1 to continue (which would cuz windows to boot slowly) or F2 to go to setup utilities.
In setup, I changed my secondary drive settings to OFF (cuz the only other option was "unknown device" or something like that).
So only thing I have set is my Master Drive to the hard drive (all other things in the OFF position).
Any thoughts??

Possible issues.
1) Your DVD drive is kaput.
2) Your CD drive is kaput.
3) Both DVD and CD are kaput.
4) Motherboard secondary drives are kaput.
If 1 or 2 isn't working it could effect the other.
More than likely you have one IDE cable connecting to one drive, then it connects to the second drive, and then finally into the motherboard. The drives are probably set up as "cable select", meaning where it's plugged into the cable says whether it is the "master" or the "slave". The master drive is going to connect at the end of cable, and the slave will use the middle connector.
Open up the case and find out which is which. Then unplug both the IDE cable and power connector from the drive that's the slave and try and boot the computer. Make sure you've enable the secondary IDE drives in the BIOS (I think you called it the setup utilities). See if the drive works. If it does, the other drive is probably bad and interfering with them working properly.
If not, open up the case, unplug the IDE cable and power cable from the master drive and plug them into the other drive. Make sure you use the end of the cable into the other drive so it knows it's the master drive. Boot up and see if it works.
If it's not working, then you are at option 3 or 4. Only way to check is to get a CD or DVD drive you know is working and plug it in, if it works then both drives are bad. If not, your motherboard is probably bad.

thanxs guys....
I was playing Nostradameus with Kelly already.
Ordered both the new Sony DVD-R and a Lite On CD-RW last nite.
Already have both pulled out and the case openings duck taped with Bounty!!
After I posted this, I opened up the case and saw that the power and IDE cables link both drives together with those respective connections.
I was pretty sure the DVD was going out on me cause it was sounding loud for awhile now (guess overuse with BF1942..heehee).
Wish me luck that it aint the motherboard portion!!! Otherwise the new $3500 computer will be next!!

We got a nice little mini-blizzard this morning, right in the middle of rush hour traffic. Of course the weather reports all said we'd get a sprinkle here or there, late in the day, so there were no salt trucks out. Plus it wasn't just snow either, ice and freezing rain, so the roads were extremely slick. I was doing about 20 mph in my truck and all of a sudden my back end starts to slide out from under me. Foot off the gas and turned into the slide and I straightened out but it was close. There was a car travelling in the same direction as me in the next lane over and if the full donut was pulled, we would have crashed. Needless to say, I put it in 4 wheel drive the rest of the way.
PS Waterboy, Dale was in late today, he ended up on the side of the road into a fence from the ice/snow on his way in this morning. He's fine though.

heard Columbus OH already got or is gettin 1 ft by tomorrow.
Talked to Dale today & he told me as much.
It's great when your life is waking up at 12 noon, eating, pooping, playing games and watching the Steelers.
I can get too used to this lifestyle!!!

Pooping would describe the play of the steelers...[JiF]LtWaterboy wrote:

What was that, Benny got sacked 9 times by Baltimore in that shutout? Although I have a feeling they are going to come in Dec 31st, with Cincy needing a win to make the playoffs and win. Nah, no f'ing way!
