When teams are unbalanced in number (or kills) I (of course) try to change to other team if I think it would help.
To do that I commit suicide (write command game.suicide in console), I wonder if there is other "smoother" ways to change team?

Get killed, hit enter to bring up spawn location, pick the other teams tab at the top, select kit and spawn point.
Or hit enter to bring up spawn menu, I think there is a suicide button on the bottom of the screen to select with your mouse, select the other teams tab at the top, select kit, and spawn.

I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Rix,
Hold down TAB and select the ALLIES or AXIS with your mouse to switch teams. It will count as a death, but I don't think it counts as a suicide. Anyhow that's how I do it.
PS--> It's easier in console to change your name by typing 'name <username> You shouldn't have to type the entire game.changeplayername command.

I never have that problem cos I get killed so often that every few seconds I get the chance to switch
