The Russian Front

Post by [JiF] General WarHawk »

I happened to be in FilePlanet today, and checking out some new maps. I looked at a couple, notably the Marshall Islands, Operation Hillside and Juno Beach. Operation Hill side is the only one of those that isn't conquest only, but it has a bug in that it looks like you can spawn at a Grey Flag, when in reality you cant. Other than that, it was hard not to fall down a hill, into barbed wire.

But the best map I found, was "The Russian Front". Totally playable from a CoOp standpoint, lots to do, and lots of tanks and open space. Kinda like Tobruk on Ice. Basically as the Russians you have to hold onto 1 flag to win, and as the Germans you punish the Russians as much as possible before your tickets run out. Germany has an uncappable flag, so it's lots of fun, and works in both Conquest and CoOp mode. I didn't find any bugs in it, and so far it looks like a map that is quite playable for Monday nights, especially since Omaha_Beach_LD is the only CoOp map there is at the moment.

If you need it, let me know, I'll see how to transfer it to whatever place holds the files on here.
I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.

Ooo, that sounds like an amazing map! We should totally get it up on Custom Map Monday.

Could I get a copy of the map? I would love to test it and whatnot :)

I've just downloaded it.
I'll have a play on it at lunch time, as I can't play online at work during working hours at the minute.
We have had problems with 1 of our 2 lines so all traffic is going through a 2MB line which really slows up my connection.
I'll post some feedback on it after I have had a run round.

Hey Blind,

If you want some new maps to checkout then go here:-
http://www.fileplanet.com/100077/0/section/Maps

you will need to join as a member to D/L maps - don't worry its free and you can use your GameSpy login details to setup an account.

There are Hundreds of maps on this site. Beware - many are not very good/have glitches/are badly made but some are awesome.

also note that some downloads are .rar or .zip archive files. you will need WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm)
or winZip (http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm) these are both evaluation copies that expire after a set period of time, however you can keep using them but just have to deal with pesky 'Reminder' dialog boxes.
use either of these to extract the map files (.rfa) to your map folder. try to avoid putting BF screenshots (.tga) or readme (.txt) files in your map folder as they can cause crashes.

I have downloaded about 40 maps from here in the last two weeks, looking for ideas for my maps and to see if we can come up with better choices for CMM.

OK so 1st Impressions.
Big open map with lots of tanks & planes.
Nice quick spawns on the vehicles too.
Love the hazy effect on it makes being a pilot a bit more difficult as vision distance is reduced. I started to feel cold playing this.
I'll reserve judgment until I've had another go on it. My first run was just having a really good battle. Look at the intricacies & pitfalls next time.
You're right about the Tobruk on ice.

One thing that was nice, was it had a CoOp mode, so I could do it too without the online worries. I figure if you can't do it in CoOp mode, then it's probably a pretty weak map, cause that's a pretty good measure of a glitch free map.
