sound problems with steam

ok.
i log into steam and start cs or tfc.
i play for about 30 minutes then the sound just randomely shuts off.
i exit steam and try to listen to a flash song on myspace or something and those dont work,
neither do the videos on youtube.
but when i play a tool song or something on windows media player or media monkey, it works, along with other movies.
i end up having to restart my computer.
god i wished steam worked on linux without wine.

help?

I had a similar issue with Steam a long time ago.
I think it cleared up when I stopped using a USB headset.
