I used to play BF 1942 on the Jif server quite a bit, it was and still is my favorite server. However, recently I have moved out to one of the few places left in the U.S. where high speed internet is only available via expensive satellite service. So, my multiplayer gaming days were over for a while. However, during the black friday week, many laptops were on sale and I picked myself up 1 just so I would be able to play my favorite pc games online again at my brothers. Of all the 8 games I have installed and successfully played online, my favorite, Battlefield 1942 (plus expansions) is the only one I have trouble with. So I said all that to simply say this: I can't play Battlefield without getting the game crashing back to the desktop after it loads the map! It doesn't do it every time, just randomly whenever it wants to. I have updated all of my drivers and have read searched for answers and tried many things but nothing has helped. My setup is...
Toshiba T-6836 laptop
Windows Vista 64bit w/ service pack 1
Intel Core2Duo @2.0g
Intel Mobile 965 Express Chipset (integrated video)
4g RAM
I am running as the Admin, I have tried running BF in Windows XP compatibility mode and many others, I have re-installed BF multiple times, and as I said, I have updated all drivers (video, audio, display, keyboard, touchpad...lol all drivers). I would love to get this problem solved because I miss my battlefield time... Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Re: Another Person With BF1942 Vista Problems (CTD)
Sounds like a common problem with Vista.. This new PC im using has vista home premium...
I have the very same problem with it dropping me back to desktop after 1 or 2 maps of playing online.
Im quite happy with it... as I couldn't get on the server at first.. so to be able to play without getting kicked after a few seconds is great.
Punk Buster was kicking me first but sorted that out by adding punkbusterA.exe and PunkbusterB.exe to admin allowed in firewall and windows settings.
as for the crashing back to windows with this programe blah blah blah and need to close not sorted it out yet.. but as I said 1 or 2 maps is cool before it happens.
As my grandfather use to tell me think about what you have and not what you have not.

Re: Another Person With BF1942 Vista Problems (CTD)
I run BF on a Vista comp and on an XP
I have NO probs on the XP but the vista CTDs every now and again
make sure that Punkbuster is running as admin
From what I gather here and in other Forums there are less problems with 32bit versions of Vista than 64bit
also Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets have some problems with OpenGL (a graphics tool) that BF is built around
One trick you can try is to create a partition on your hard drive and run a stripped down version of XP with just the essentials running
load BF into this partition and boot it up when you wanna play
