Do you hate Windows?

Post by seadogs »

Ah, thought as much

Windows - Unstable, expensive, Microsoft and utterly naff. But for some reason we accept it... We accept the fact that we can only play games on Windows, we take crap from Microsoft that stops us playing music on non windows machines and we still download from iTunes although you can only use DRM music in iTunes and nothing else..

Well after a whole 2 hours work I've got BF1942 working on a non windows platform.

Yep thats right.

Ubuntu 8.10 (Hardy) (http://www.ubuntu.com)

Its free, its stable, and BF1942 works, but most importantly, it hasn't got a BIT Of Microsoft in it. Now then, How does one get exe files running in Ubuntu? the answer is wine (a bottle and the Windows Emulator!) Its free, taken 15 years to develop but it allows exes to run in trusty Linux!

So soon I'll be testing it out online! Punkbuster in linux should be interesting. The fact it works in singleplayer is quite remarkable in itself.

Nope, Windows plays my games good. When I wanna do real work, I use my Mac or Linux.

My main desktop OS is running Linux (Gentoo) and I have another partition set up with Vista on it (although I have VMware on Linux so I rarely need to touch it). I have Windows XP on my laptops.

I don't hate Windows, I don't hate Mac, I don't hate Linux. I like something about all of them.
