Punkbuster keeps kicking me

Post by Graham Cracka »

PB keeps kicking me for "unknown windows API function [131134]". Anyone know what this means? I did a manual update of PB to no avail. :?

www.twistedgamingservice.com wrote:First off most API kicks can be solved by cleaning your system.

For example API kick 131129 is pretty much always caused by a Trojan/Virus. Specifically "Trojan.Horse.BackDoor.Agent.BA" which Norton took way to long to detect and still doesn't detect reliably. Grisofts AVG Free detected it with out and update and can be had for Free. Simply visit http://free.grisoft.com/ and get the free version. They also have a free Spyware Program and an Anti-Root kit to get rid of the nasty crap Music and Movie studios try to install on your computer.

List of Known API kicks and there causes and there fixes.

API Kick 131124:
Known cause: BF2Amp - Cheat software will get you banned.
Solution: Don't use it
Known cause: PowerStrip
Solution: Get the latest version. Old versions of PS cause this kick.

API Kick 131129:
Known cause: Trojan.Horse.BackDoor.Agent.BA
Known cause: Proxy.L Trojan
Known cause: Trojan horse Downloader.Agent.AL
Known cause: Trojan horse PSW.Delf.2.A
Solution: ID and remove it using AVG or other AV program (AVG recommend, currently only AV detecting this 11/28/05)

API Kick 131133:
Known cause: Ventrillo Voice Overlay - Possibly other overlay programs. (ATI tool tray from Omega Drivers suspect)
Solution: Disable overlay program
Known cause: DxTweaker
Solution: Disable DxTweaker program
Known cause: Older TSO - Causes a "Missing/Corrupted API" kick
Solution: Update TSO to latest build

API Kick 131135: - disabled as of 12/01/05
Known cause: Tiny Firewall
Solution: Uninstall it for a quick fix. Looking for options to disable API hooking and keep it installed.
Known cause: Kaspersky
Solution: possible options
Known cause: Ad-Aware
Solution: appears to load files on boot or run that stay active. Reboot and do not enable to play.

API Kick 131136:
Known cause: Running BF2 in compatibility mode
Solution: Disable compatibility mode, do not run other programs in compatibility mode at the same time.

Other Unknown Windows API Kicks with no definite fix.

131125 - Unknown
131127 - Unknown
131128 - Unknown
131131 - Unknown - Its though that Security Update for Windows (KB917422) causes this one. KB917422 was replaced by a later update and should no longer cause this kick.
131134 - Unknown - Suspected of being caused by DVD Copy Protection Software Alpha-DVD which is a root kit similar to what Sony placed on its music CD's. Try using a Root Kit remover. AVG Root Kit Cleaner , Sophos Anti-Root Kit
131136 - Unknown
131144 - Unknown
131146 - Unknown
You can download the Sony root kit removal software at their site or on downloads.com. be sure to set a restore point before trying anything for safety's sake :) good luck and post more if you need more help/research! :)

Thanks for the reply Lonewolf. I tried to find a rootkit remover that worked with Win98, but couldnt find one other than the one on Sony s site. Their remover did not find anything to remove. I also tried couple of other programs that said they could detect rootkits, but none of them found anything. I think I will just break down and wipe the disk clean. If ya all dont see me for a while that s why. While I am at it, I know I should upgrade the OS but Bill Gates has enough money already  .

Yeah, but the wife would never go for that. I have a copy of Win2K Pro I think I ll put on it. I just hate how slow and bloated it is (not to mention the BSOD). Maybe someday I will get of my butt and go buy a new system. Who am I kidding, I am too cheap for that  .

Win2k is 100X more stable than 98. If you do your homework you can turn off services to reduce overhead and it's actually a little better than XP for gaming aside from the fact that video drivers haven't been written for it in ages! You can usually force xp drivers on and get away with it anyhow. If you do W2k, I strongly suggest getting the SP4 because it cleans up a lot of performance issues with earlier releases. Good luck!

I just use the 5 inch floppies to get it booted  Man, I feel like the kid that shows up to school on the first day wearing last years clothes. When I said it burned wood, I wasn t kidding. With Win2K I am gonna have to upgrade to coal or maybe fire up the diesel generator. Now you guys know why I suck so bad in BF1942.

I am back up and running! :D Thanks Lonewolf for the help and advice. Can you tell me some of the services that I can safely turn off in Win2K SP4? Thanks again.

can you screen cap your processes tab and your running services console? it's been a while and i'm on XP sp3 now ;) I know some things like 'wireless zero config,' 'volume shadow copy', and others can be turned off if you're not using em. Let me take a look and I'll ask some questions and see if we can shave it down some!

How do I attach images from my PC? Do I have to upload them to an image posting server? Please forgive my ignorance for I am just a simple caveman...I do not understand this magic box with the pretty sounds and images
