Video Card Thoughts?
So I have not updated my gaming PC in a few years, and I am somewhat limited by the fact I do not have a PCI E slot, so I found this card http://tinyurl.com/29q864 wondering if anyone had any thoughts. I am currently running an Nvidia 6600 GT (256).

Here is my opinion
I decided to get this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... %204X%2f8X
I had a hard time getting it to work.Had to download the correct Catalyst.
http://www.visiontek.com/teksupport/dri ... river.html
It was not windows supported and i had to download an updated driver from a third party site.
(This driver for the HD2400 series and HD2600 Series is non-WHQL certified)
The i downloaded the Crysis Demo, Graphics were awesome but a little on the slow side.
I decided to return it and wait and build a new PC.
Then i went and upgraded the kids (my old one) PC from 6600 to 7600 GT.

No problems with Nvidia, worked great right out of the box.
I would just wait until you get a new PC.
I assume your PC is XP and about 3 or 4 years old.
I am now stuck with an AGP 6600 that's worth little as resale and can't buy a PC that it will work on.

Hey Beej, I don't know if you've made a purchase yet but you may want to be aware of this http://www.tomshardware.com/news/diamon ... ,6411.html

I got one with a, "heat pipe cooling solution", because I have gone through 2 others with fans that kept getting clogged up with dog hair...
MSI makes a few with no fans, I don't know if they have 256 bit though.

Sure Mentat, blame the dog, the oldest trick in the book. I don't know Beej an AGP card? Most manufacturers can't even remember how to spell AGP let alone build one.[JiF]Mentat wrote:I got one with a, "heat pipe cooling solution", because I have gone through 2 others with fans that kept getting clogged up with dog hair...

Its AGP or nothing.... I dont want to replace the mobo just to get a few more frames and more expensive card....
I can speak from experience, Mentat's place is spotless. He follows his dogs around as they shed and collects the hairs one by one.
