Well other than doughnuts we tend to mention beer a fair amount so I am starting a thread relating to Beer!

To kick it off, some beer related motivators...

Lately I've been on a Landshark binge. It's a lighter beer, but damn tasty. That and New Castle, a lot different, and much thicker, but also very tasty.

I look for the local brews. I like to try new stuff as opposed to drinking the national brands, not that the national brands aren't good. I just like trying stuff. I'll often order something not knowing what it is or will just ask the barmaid to 'bring me a dark ale that's on tap'. I prefer darker ales and stouts and tend to avoid lagers and wheat beers, though there are some quite good ones out there. I have a preference for Singha. Recently I had a Black Chocolate Stout from the Brooklyn Brewery that was quite good. My first question is always what do you have on tap?

I spent about 3 months in Manchester, England a few years back and really enjoyed sampling the various wares in the local pubs. Nowdays I drink less mainly to control my caloric intake so I'm getting more particular about what I allot to my calories. Last night all my daughter had in the house was Blue Moon. I opted out on that one and had ice cream instead. See what you kids have to look forward to?

Yea I try a lot of microbrewery stuff and local stuff when i'm on the road. Those are just my 'popular' commercial favorites.

I used to look for cheap because you always got more for your buck that way, and Canadian beer has never really been cheap for the big brand labels (Molson, Labatts) so when the $1/beer brands came out I always bought one of those cases and mainly drink that when I do not have time to enjoy the flavour. If I am working on a home project I drink the cheap stuff as it is more for refreshment than enjoyment. ($26.40 a case for the equivalent or worse to Milwakee's Best is not cheap in my books, and when vacationing in the US it is so weird to be able to buy a product made just around the corner from home at last than half the cost of what I buy it for at home... thanks Government )

For sampling new flavours and enjoying it I have been trying craft breweries, microbrewies and imports. And thanks to Lt.Gav I have been pinpointing English brews. I find myself constantly returning to Spitfire and Tetley's. But I am open to trying pretty much everything out there... a few weeks ago I tried my first wheat beer (Schneider Weisse) and found it interesting but probably not something I will return to.

The pub around the corner from home once had an event named Around the World... it was a great idea that had you have one 16 ounce glass of everything on tap. They had 16 beers on tap and all but four were imported (you didn't have to do it all in one night). So sixteen samples later you got a T-shirt.

Exactly. I was in a small town restaurant recently and ask "what's on tap?" The answer was "Bud Light". So I drank Bud Light.
