So I started a new job two weeks ago in Swindon. I work for the ESRC a research funding body that works with Govt., Universities and Charities to fund research in the Social Sciences, in my case, International Relations and Development.
those of you with a passing knowledge of UK geography (or Google maps) will see that Plymouth and Swindon are not exactly close together, and when you combine distance and the UK trains network you get a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG commute, 3-3.5hrs each way to be precise.
thats right I spend 7.5 hrs at work and 7 hrs getting to and from work.
there may bethose amongst you who have stopped reading this because they have concluded that I am indeed Insane, and they may be right. at the moment my life is; get up at 05.40, get train at 06.25, get to work at 09.45. leave work at 17.40, get home at 21.00, eat, kiss GF and go to bed. sound like fun?
anybody want to trade?
nah didn't think so.
but the good news is that i have now found a place to stay during the week in Swindon so I will be travelling up and down only once a week. WOO to the HOO!
plus because I will not have the GF around to scold and require me to move stuff or 'help' with chores I am free to play '42 to my hearts content, or at least till my eyes go all funny and even when I close them I can see a little cross-hair.
Anyway till then I'll always have the weekend, see you there
Z

You need a wireless card & laptop so you can play while on the train
I have tried it with a cell phone tether,it has a litle lag, but not bad.

Wow Zouga!
That is some dedication to having a job.
I'm not talking of the distance travelling, it's the working in Swindon bit. Not the most picturesque of places.
Good on you though.
Hope to see you around a bit more when you are set up.

I have a laptop at home but need to leave it there with the GF, I have asked about one from work but it has to be an encrypted one (Cool huh, just like james bond), trying to talk them into it cos it means I can work form home 2 days a week too.
fingers crossed

Hi Zouga,
Good luck with the new job - government work - say no more - can't be too careful you know. Look forward to seeing you back in the game in between missions or err assignments.
I like your cover story by the way. I guess we will never know your real name - that's probably for the best if you leave the 'encrypted' laptop on the choo choo train...
hUTCHIE.
