Re: Custom Map Thursday
LoL, but you pinpointed exactly what I meant by 'organizing'. I'm part of a community that has exactly the same views and values as JiF (hence the reason I appreciate you guys so much), the only difference being that we take part in some organized gaming at BFCL with a huge lineup where about only the quarter of shows up when needed. So we have the numbers to enjoy. And be carfull, some of these maps have been around a loooong time and some 'harcore dedicated' players do know them by hearth, I've experienced it the hard way !

Re: Custom Map Thursday
I guess if I had to state an argument, I'd go for a move to Monday or Tuesday simply because Thursday is getting too close to the weekend, and a lot of players are busy with other chores that night. Early in the week most people are not doing much, so guys might show up. I do think that we should intersparse the conquest maps with co-ops that will work on Custom Map Night, for when it IS slow. See if you can find where I used all three.
Re: Custom Map Thursday
Monday or Tuesday ok with me.
Why don't we have regular maps and pick 2 or 3 small custom maps to go along with it.
We can still call it custom map day.
Maybe we can get people interested in downloading only 2 or 3 maps.
I will say, downloading all those maps for the first time can be discouraging.

Re: Custom Map Thursday
Yep Monday or Tuesday fine with me too.
Good idea Corn, feed them in a few at a time. Start with 2 or 3 once we see that people have those, then expand the list to add another 2 or 3.
I figure this should be over a period of months, otherwise the server admin will have too much work keep changing the files & we wouldn't want to upset them now would we?
As long as we get Saint Saveur in the 1st round draft.
Should we all come up with a preference list or wait until we agree or not if this is the way forward.

Re: Custom Map Thursday
Corn,
I dunno, they are now in a self extracting zip, so it's easy as pie to be honest. My neighbors son just DLed em to join us. I think we should just encourage them to DL the ENTIRE PACK. Otherwise it becomes convoluted and people are at different places and get kicked for no map found later. I think mixing in a few good regular maps (3/4) would be good. We could even set one as our idle map so long as the server messages indicate that it's a custom map day.
But let's not get lost here.. we will need input on Moving to Mondays too

Re: Custom Map Thursday
I agree that the winzip is easy.
The problem i found is on my new PC build,i did not have winzip and i didn't know it.
I downloaded the maps and they went automatically to the winrar and corrupted them.(MY bad)
I have to download again.
Our forum is confusing for those who download maps.
Get rid of the old topics that Grimp put in and only have [JiF]Mike downloads in winzip only.
The reason i suggest doing one 2 or 3 maps only.
To get people that just played the other 10 regular maps, curious about the the few that show up.
Then they go and download those and get hooked.

Re: Custom Map Thursday
Try downloading the self extracting version Corn (*.exe).
No WinZip required.
Good idea with the sampling custom maps mixed in with the regular maps it might work provided that the "randoms" (for lack of a better word) realize why they got disconnected.

I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Re: Custom Map Thursday
Well I get what you're saying Corn, but my concern is that with all of the changes the lack of consistency will make it harder to build a crowd. We should just pick a day... get our maps on there the way we intend it to be played longterm, and start building by bringing it up in gamechat, inviting friends/players, and advertising it on ours and other forums. That keeps it simple as opposed to constant tweaking of maps and days and all. That will give us the foundation to build. I get your point, but I think consistency is a better bet
On that note, I'll agree on Mondays. Is anyone AGAINST the move?

Point of Order!
You've only had a proposal which has been 1st, 2nd & 3rd. The true democracy brother, would then have to put that proposal to the general membership for a full vote. We should also put it to the floor in case there are any other counter proposals that people wish to make. Of course we would have to vote on the counter proposals in the reverse order in which they are received until we arrive at a proposal that can be adopted by the membership after a full vote has been canvassed.
You can tell that I've sat on some interesting committees in my time where the above has actually happened.
I vote Monday too!

Re: Custom Map Thursday
How about having just one custom map a month in the rotation full time? That way people who dont feel like getting it only will sit out one round. It may get more people to the website to download one map. I would guess that a lot of casual players dont feel like downloading a ton of maps, but one or two might be easy enough. Especially if they are self-extracting. Just a thought I had. I personally love the custom maps, but they do require more players to make them fun.

Re: Custom Map Thursday
One custom map a month?!?!??!?!?! Ok so far it looks like no-one has objected to moving to create Custom Map Mondays and making Thursdays regular play again. I think that's a smart move, and it still keeps a custom day for the crowd that likes em! Mike?
