Custom maps

Post by LongSnapper »

Needing some help installing the custom maps- downloaded the huge file last night- (thanks JIF Mike), but they won't install into the actual game itself- Im a running 64 bit Vista(ugh)- is this the problem? Are there any Vista-specific patches I need to look for? Thanks guys!

The only difference is probably the installation path. Make sure you are selecting the folder you installed BF into so the files are put in the right places. Also, if you downloaded the zip file you have to use Winzip to extract it as I used the highest level of compression it has and Windows can not open this file on it's own. If you want to skip installing Winzip, I did get the self extracting file uploaded last night. It's pretty much the same size as the zip file, but does not require Winzip to extract. Just run it and select your BF install folder. :)

Thanks Mike- I think it worked (the self-extracting file, I mean)- but the maps don't show up when I launch the game- will I only be able to see them when they are actually being played? I don't mean to sound ignorant- but I guess I am-lol- Is there any way to access them so I can get familiar with the layouts, etc. Practice makes perfect, after all...Any help would be appreciated....

In order to see custom maps on your computer, you have to select 'Multiplayer', then 'local' instead of 'Internet' and then 'Create game' and you'll have a huge list of maps to choose from for your enjoyment. You can even have some with bots in them if they were modded so.

Hope that helped.

I think Sir Die-a-lot is right, I usually just play em when they come up myself.

its also a good idea to play them with a freind over a local LAN network, you can have hours of fun exploring it together and you can also get used to the map without the pressure of getting as many kills as possible, or playing the map before the game ends and another comes on.

Has anyone thought about adding any maps or changing a few.

With the few players we have on custom map day, should we start thinking about adding smaller maps, Karden or Cortona type maps only.
There are a lot of great infantry maps out there.
We can keep the larger maps , just not put them in rotation.
