Vista Changes for BF1942

Post by [JiF]LtWaterboy »

Okay guys,

Just installed Vista Ultimate on my computer today.

Heard some random stuff in forums. Thought that we could just start a thread instead specifically to address.

When you run with Vista, what are the needed changes you need to make in order to run BF1942 with no problems?

XP- Vista Patch*

Post by Lonewolf-McQuade »

You will need to patch a few files from XP to your Vista installation. Here are the steps:

1. Boot from your XP disk
2. Format the Vista partition(s)
3. Install XP again.
4. Get all updates
5 Play BF1942 and enjoy your computing experience.

I call this the 'XP-Vista patch*!'

*This 'patch' in effect removes Vista (aka: the Vista Virus) and replaces it with XP (aka: the other virus before vista) xx

You need to run the PB.exe manually to get around that. Go to their site and get the PB.exe and then update all your games with everytime before you play. I really didn't have to do anything extra to play my games on Vista, the only thing is you take a performance hit on Vista compared to XP.

Thanks... I did that in many locations (also did pbsetup.exe, etc etc) in various folder locations. Seems to be working for most part. Only thing now is the crash to desktop (mainly on map changes - not all of them).

Hmmm...mine hasnt taken any performance hit. Guess when you have NASA's control center as your home computer, it doesnt affect much!!! ;)

Welcome to my world.
I have 2 gigs of ram on my Vista box, but still have to close every other program running to help avoid crashes on map loads.
It sucks.

I generally haven't had any problems either except for the random crash to desktop with the "BF1942 has stopped working, windows is searching for a solution." It really pisses me off when I get the game restarted and just about get back into the server and it does it again :?
