You won't need the AA if he is on your team
All you have to do is go for flags.

I thought that was how you avoid him when you're against him. ;)

DJ - the key for identifying other planes is just like real life combat. You have to know the profiles of the planes. Once you know the different looks of a BF109, a Mustang, a zero, etc. you can tell which one is coming at you from a long distance out. You will still have to keep an eye on your radar to keep track of possible allies stealing your enemies planes but for the most part once you identify the profiles you can shoot safely. The main place you have to worry about stolen planes is Gazala if you're axis since Germans can steal Mustangs and the b17 from the secret airfield. I use the key to zoom in/zoom out the minimap and keep a count on how many allied aircraft are airborne.

Ideally you don't need to pay attention to the air because your own pilots are taking care of their pilots or you don't have to worry about shooting down your guys because the enemies already claimed total air superiority. :)

PS. The machine gun turret in tanks is the best thing to use to take out planes so that is what I'd practice the most. Just remember that when you've popped up you're easily snipeable so keep ducking down into the driver position.

Also when you first get into a tank it's not a terrible idea to jump up to the machine gunner position and rotate the gun so it's even with your turret (180 degrees). That way when you are driving and get bombed from out of nowhere you can pop right up and know that you'll be facing the same way you were a second ago.

PPS. Use short bursts. Don't overheat the gun. A couple shots at a time does a tremendous amount of damage. Only overheat when the guy is making a serious run at you and you're pretty confident you're about to be blown to smithereens. Whatever those are.

Smith`er*eens"\ (sm[i^][th]`[~e]r*[=e]nz"), pl.n. Informal.
Fragments or splintered pieces; bits: e.g. Waterboy flew in low, dropped a bomb and blew me and my tank into smithereens.

[From Irish Gaelic smidirīn, diminutive of smiodar, small fragment.]

Sorry, couldn't resist :)

Good pointers, I'll try to remember them next time I play.
I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Get in a tank or APC and get against a building or hill to limit the planes attack routes or hide in some trees. Use controlled bursts to shoot at said plane. Then move a bit. The object isn't always to knock the plane out of the air as much as it is to tie up a good pilot. If you you can keep the pilot busy your team can cap flags. The other objective is just to make the pilot a little more nervous. I shoot at planes with whatever I have available.

If you are in a jeep, turn with the planes run if you can't get to safety. Most pilots expect you to run and are surprised to find you closer than they thought you would be. Use terrain. Driving on the side of a hill is slower, but unexpected.

And my favorite, when you see WB heading to a plane, always (and I mean ALWAYS) wait until he gets into the plane before you blow it up from your hiding place. It is much more satisfying.
