Re: BF1942 Basics
Im still new to the multiplayer thing but what I found is that:
If you jump while throwing a grenade, it goes farther.
If I stand still and try to line up on someone, I'm toast.
You need to learn the terrain in order to have a reasonable chance of survival. Last night there was a map I never saw before (Invasion of the Phillipines) and I had it handed to me so many times.
Can you actually fly a plane using a keyboard? Sometimes I am just awed by the accuracy of some flyers (most recently Flying Tiger, Tick, Canned Corn).

I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Re: BF1942 Basics
I don't use a joystick and I can fly. Of course your definition of flying may not fit mine.
I suspect the players with joysticks can out maneuver me. To make a sharp turn with a mouse you have to keep moving it from top to bottom which makes you have to pick it up, move it to the top of your mouse pad and drag it down constantly depending on how you have your up/down oriented Just pulling a joystick would be much more efficient. I tried a joystick for a while, but just did not like switching to the mouse and back. If you use the joystick for infantry it's very hard to aim IMO. I just stick with a mouse instead, but I am not a constant flyboy. I would think if your gonna make flying your mission in life a joystick might be worth investigating. I use the keyboard for left/right rudder and throttle. The mouse for up/down, ailerons/elevators.

I use joystik and some say i fly okay.
If you get a joystik make sure it has a twist handle.
This is what i use.
It's cheap and should last about a year or so if you take care of it.

i fly with my mouse and i do allright. only thing i can't do with it is a nice loop. but with the keyboard loops are real easy but the rest of the flying is too hard

Re: BF1942 Basics
I try and fly with mosue/KB and end up nosediving into the ground when I try bombing things. So, now I just use the planes for transport and parachute out to my destination.

Re: BF1942 Basics
I'll keep an eye on those joysticks to go on sale, so I guess I'll stick to the ground for a bit (much like my mouse and keyboard flying).
Another tip I found is that if you are heading for a tank and a bot beats you there in a foot race and starts driving off in it, you can yell at them to bail out and they might actually give it back (F6 Alarm!, and then F7 Bail Out!).
I also found out that I cant drive and type at the same time. So if you see me driving a tank and going in a straight line into an ambush and shortly before getting blown up you see the text "Someone take out that DefWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAASSSS" you'll know why.

Re: BF1942 Basics
I played for the longest time wondering why everyone kept yelling "bail out."
It also works on AT guns, like in Monte Cassino. Unfortuantely, it doesn't seem towork when you are in a Wespe/Priest gunner's seat and a bot gets into the driver's seat. I've died several times on the river bridge in Cassino because a bot drove me up there and instead of jumping out I kept frantically hitting F6, F7.
One other neat trick -- if you have a long run or swim ahead of you, hit "L" to open team chat, and then "W" and you will automatically keep going in a straight line. Allows you to type something in without stopping, or give your left hand a brief rest.

If you are a gunner just keep hitting 1 and alot of times the bot will jump out so you can drive.

Re: BF1942 Basics
Hi...
Hi fly with Mouse/KB.I guess flying by Stick is better, when i see like other Pilots and her flying.
I guess any Day i will buy me a Jostick an try this.
When a Bot is in an Tank or Plane sometimes it works when i press the 1 Buttun and sometimes Not. The kombination F6 F7 work not by me.
A little Tip:
When you must Swimm throuw a River you can go rotative Land and Water in short interval it works faster an you can not dying.
When you will shot a Tank with the Bazooka then try to shot in his Backside because the most Tanks can you Destroy with one Shot.(not German Tigers, Russian T74, and Englich M10 Tanks).

Re: BF1942 Basics
this is a little trick that i picked up when someone used it on me, its called the gliding mine.
if a tank is chasing you and you dont think that you can get close enough to mine it, let it chase you up a hill or incline (or hide on the other side) and jump and throw a mine at the same time, the mine goes up into the air and goes a bit further and when it hits the ground, it keeps sliding! this is ideal to defend the windmill on battle of the bulge, and can get some good distance on aberdeen.

That's right, these posts are the result of the dedicated work of me and a room full of monkeys working diligently on our typewriters.

Re: BF1942 Basics
If you want to fly - get a joystick.
i struggled for ages with mouse and KB, but once a i got a stick, (the same one as corn uses) my flying has improved 10fold, i can last longer than 1 bombing run now, lol.
the beauty of this stick is that it has 12 programmable buttons, so you can input commands like bail out, or enemy armour spotted, plus the map and chute etc... It also has a throttle and twist function so you can fly one handed and you are always ready to go infantry if you have to bail.
it also comes with intelligent profiling software which learns your style of play for each game you play with the stick and auto adjusts the sensitivity so it works best for you.
If you have a logitech gaming mouyse then the sorfware works with this too
however if you are on a budget you can fly on the KB alone, map the keys as follows:
w - throttle up
s - throttle down
a - rudder left
d - rudder right
up arrow - dive
down arrow - climb
left arrow - roll left
right arrow - roll right
space - fire MG
right ctrl - drop bomb
this config takes a while to master but you can pull off the most amazing manouvers, like 90 deg turns around the corners of buildings, especially if you map the keys for a high sensitivity. the key is Practice, Practice, Practice
try playing BoB in SP mode and try shooting down as many german bots in the time it takes them to dest the factory
some more tips on flying:
-if you want to bomb a tank come from high up, release the bomb when the cursor is just in front of the target, PULL UP IMMEDIATELY after releasing the bomb and roll/turn left or right to avoid ground fire.
-Learn the position of the AA on the map, and try to hit it before anything else
if i get bombed, my first reaction is revenge, i head straight for the nearest AA and wait for victims, if you know where they are you can tell if they are manned when they disappear from the minimap.
-when trying to bomb AA, come from very high up and always wait to open up with MGs until you can see the gun, otherwise
you alert them to your presence, plus you'll miss xx anyway.
Another tip is to invest in some quality headphones, if you use your comp speakers you will miss a lot of the more subtle sounds, you can always hear the planes before you see them and use the noise to guide you to their direction of approach if you are gunning from the ground.
If flying then you can hear when an enemy plane closes on you, especially from behind or below, then use 'C' to change your viewpoint to see where they are. i recommend you do this regularly when flying anyway, it shows you targets and potential incoming attacks.
On the Infantry topic...
When shooting from distance with a sub gun or AR i always aim lower left torso, this is because the kick will lift the muzzle of the gun up and right and therefore towards the head by the 4th/5th bullet
If using a rifle or pistol aim for the upper-middle-torso/ neck area as the muzzle wavers up and down
Wow thats like my longest post ever
i hope its not all just gibberish to you all

Re: BF1942 Basics
Another item of note...
Expacks and grenades do not damage ships at all. So if you are defending your carrier as an engineer you can rig expacks without fear of damaging the ship, only the the opposition players trying to camp on it.
In the case that you happen to parachute on to the enemys carrier, a bazooka can damage the carrier and even sink it (provided that there isn't an engineer on board constantly repairing the thing) but you have to shoot the deck of the carrier only. (I'm not entirely sure if this is exactly sporting activity). Im not sure if this works on battleships.
