Tactics in BF42
Tactics in BF42
Hey All:
I'm not sure and this subject probably has been breached before but I'd like to share some of my experience (gained from many deaths mind you).
I'll start with bombing from planes.
If you just can't hit sh** from planes do this. At the last minute of bomb release, pull back hard on the stick and up. The bomb will run straight thru the intended target. It takes a bit of practice but pretty soon you'll be sending virtual peeps into neverland in no time.

Re: Tactics in BF42
the only time i can hit stuff with bombs is from very low altitudes, and i usually get caught in the bomb radius, and it damages my plane. thats why on coral sea, i prefer to LAND my plane on the enemy carrier (not bail), get out, and shoot/ expack people, that or countersnipe on the island nearest my own carrier.
That's right, these posts are the result of the dedicated work of me and a room full of monkeys working diligently on our typewriters.

Re: Tactics in BF42
For me, the only time I destroy things with bombs is when they explode with the plane as I crash onto something.
Re: Tactics in BF42
I hate it when i run into my own bomb especially in the Spitfires and ME-109's.
Stuka is easier for me from higher up in Dives.

Re: Tactics in BF42
No one seems to have any issues taking my tanks out with one bomb!
Of course, I can't help with the targeting issues since if/when I fly a plane it invariably ends up in a hill or nose-planted in the ground. Guess I need to nicely ask my wife if I can buy a joystick! After all she has one!

Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

Re: Tactics in BF42
FWIW the 'counter' is two parts. First make sure that if you're in a tank you keep an eye out for planes. If they're incoming they'll be aiming for your rear or top so reverse and spin when you see a plane about to drop it's bomb. Try getting towards a hill or trees in the hopes that they have to change direction to avoid running into 'non-destructable' objects.
The second part is to hop into the machine gunners seat (2) and start shooting. If you're good with that machine gun it cuts down planes from longer range than AA and almost as fast as AA. Anyone who's been shot down by a bot knows how fast that can happen.
Great place to practice this is on Gazala in the SE attacking/defending the 3 flags grouped together. There's no AA and usually plenty of aircraft buzzing you so the only effective way to keep ur tank alive is to get good at the top machine gun. If you've got all 3 flags capped and aren't concerned about any tanks or snipers attacking you then park your ride on one of the repair pads (make sure you park it perpindicular to the pad with your rear facing the repair pad building). Man the top machine gun and barring an ace dive bomber or the b17 you should be able to knock any plane out of the sky - usually before they get you but definitely after they've had their one pass.

Re: Tactics in BF42
Some good advice Sly.
Also if you don't/can't take them out with the machine gun you can quickly go to the canon and hit them at the last seconds of the approach if low enough. You may wearing a broken plane when its over, but you will take em down. Works the same on ships, main gun at the last part of the planes approach can knock em right down. Don't try a long shot, wait til you can almost see the pilot
Don't think you can't do damage with infantry weapons either, you can and if you got a couple players who can hit it with small arms fire you can flame it. I have shot at a lot of planes with infantry automatic weapons and with a little practice you can get really good at hitting them. At least send a few off to the a quiet place to repair

Re: Tactics in BF42
I use 3rd person view of my plane for bombing runs, I get more accuracy from seeing my plane in relation to the target. But for dog-fighting, the cockpit view is the only way to go! Nothing like watching the tracer shredding your opponents plane into pieces that ricochet off your propellar blades! Ping ping ping!
Re: Tactics in BF42
I'm far from being a great pilot myself, but a joystick isn't really necessary, imo: You can adjust the mouse and keyboard sensitivity separately for planes. Recommended! If I still used the same settings as for infantry or ground/sea vehicles there, I'd also still crash into everything. So I'd suggest to adjust these settings first and see how you're doing with that...[JiF]Toriq wrote:Of course, I can't help with the targeting issues since if/when I fly a plane it invariably ends up in a hill or nose-planted in the ground. That BOLOGNA lini....I have watched you move that B-17 through the canyons of Galzla...you are a gifted pilot. Amazing though you don't use a joystick[JiF]lini wrote:I'm far from being a great pilot myself,

Ain't that the truth. A concrete bunker is the only safe place when WB is aloft.

Re: Tactics in BF42
Sometimes I wonder if he has that plane parked on a hill and is just waiting for me to hop into a tank.
Never seems to fail, I get a tank, WB swoops in and I am left waiting to spawn... wash, rinse, repeat...

I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.
