Greetings from LtStarbuck
Greetings Jifers !!!
Well my old college buddy Davy (Toriq) has shamed me. I got onto your web site a couple weeks ago but never posted a ‘hello’ note. He, on the other hand, got on today and posted today ….what a go getter!
In any case I too wanted to thank you all for operating such a fun server. I had bought BF1942 after getting hooked on BF2 at Toriq’s place a few months back and played a few servers before getting tired of the punkish kiddies that seemed to dominate. I stumbled onto your server and found a mature group of gamers who had no tolerance for such tom-foolery.
Since then I have become simply addicted. Although in general not much of a FPS fan (I think the last one I played was Duke Nukem) you guys just make it so much fun. You accept me as equal although I am simply awful and know it. I turn in ‘starbuckian’ scores constantly 0-0-13, 2-2-15, but you don’t care which makes it so much more fun. Nothing is more of a turn off then having some punk 14 year old call me a “f-ing newbie.” Yes I am relatively new, yes I’m not very good, but in the case of your server YES I am having fun and isn’t that what matters? My wife even enjoys watching me play saying she likes “watching me laugh and giggle” and have such a good time; sadly though with Toriq joining us she tends to route for him to kill me (go figure.) So thanks for operating a ‘punk free’ server where old farts like Toriq and I can come and enjoy ourselves.
In introduction I too and an old gamer; when I was a kid I actually collected teams from the old vibrating football game and operated a league keeping stats and timing the games with an egg timer. In High School I was introduced to Blitzkrieg and Squad Leader and became totally immersed in the latter and to this day have a friend with whom I play ASL with from time to time. My high school computer science final project was a war game, written in BASIC on a TRS-80, which allowed opponents to pick from a list of historic armies and pit them against each other. You could take on Napoleon’s Hussars with Jackson’s foot cavalry. Got me an ‘A’ and I supposed you could say that was my first computer game. Also during that time found Strat-O-Matic which became a lifelong obsession.
I created and played a Strat-o-Matic league which became a huge social phenomenon among the hippy community in Blacksburg, Virginia (Virginia Tech) during the 80’s. Toriq was part of that league and we have been very close friends since. I am so very glad he had joined me on this server and is enjoying it as much as I.
In the late 90’s I began playing Ultima Online and still play to this day. I played Red Baron II during that time as well and it was there I first used the handle ‘LtStarbuck.’ Another game from that era I still play is Starcraft (as LtGenJacksonCSA) and am eagerly awaiting the release of SC2 in October. With all humility I can say that I am ungodly good at that game (better be after playing for 10 years) and try to play at least one game a week to keep my hand in it. I and my wife enjoy playing Civ together and we would enjoy finding good players with which to play that classic game.
Well I too offer my congratulation for reading this far and thank you all again for this fun and mature gaming environment.

Starbuck, good to see you on the forum.
Makes a whole lot of difference getting to know a bit about the player behind the tag.
