PB&J

Post by [JiF][AARP]Tissueman »

I think we may have done this before, but the nice thing about being almost as old as Grimp and Jimbo is that .......

Anyway, I eat PB sandwiches 4-5 times a week easily. It is one of my favorite lunch foods. If only McD's had a McPB&J.

My favorite PB&J sandwiches - not really limited to PB&J:

Not in any particular order:
1. The classic PB&J with either strawberry or grape jam or jelly
2. Toast the bread and put PB on one side and chunks of butter on the other. The melted PB and butter combo is wonderful. It drips everywhere.
3. PB with Fritos (potato chips work as a alternate, but Fritos are by far the best). Layer the chips on then push the sandwich down on the plate crunching the chips into a nice crunchy layer.
4. PB with some walnuts crumbled on it. Nice combo of nutty flavors.
5. PB only. It's a classic that stands up well by itself.

Today I had option 2. Usually I go with option 5 because I'm trying to keep my svelte figure.

Pretty much. That's why I only eat that one once in a great while. My father has it almost daily. He could eat lard and his cholesterol would be low. My mom could eat spinach and her's would be high. Guess which genes I inherited. :(

Driving cross country back in the '80's I stumbled upon this phenomenon known as the, "Guberburger", in Missouri. I intentionally posted this after lunch time. Your welcome. :D

Good God, I'm not sure whether to be repulsed or intrigued...it looks good and horrible at the same time, if that's even possible.

Anyway, moving on...
I prefer my PB similar to Tissue, at least as far as the butter goes...
I toast the bread, butter it, then apply SMOOTH JiF to one side, then Trappist cherry preserves to the other- or seedless blackberry.
I'm not a big milk drinker, but for some reason, PBJ needs a glass of cold milk for me. 8)

I make a mean Thai green curry/spicy peanut sauce beef- I use crunchy (yeah, yeah, whatever) JiF for this- a little unorthadox, but it's spicy peanut-buttery goodness. No bread necessary :D

A variation on no1 for those like me who live in maple country :
Only one piece of country bread, sliced 1'' thick, toasted, smuthered with PB, covered with wild strawberry (the best ones) jam and then covered with maple syrup (the real stuff, not that telephone post juice made in food factories), a fork and voila, your pancreas is racing to provide enough insulin so you wont fall in a diabetic coma !

But the taste !!!!

For those for which maple syrup is too hard to come by, variation 1b, replace it with honey. Also excellent.

I like my JiF on toast or a toasted bagel. Sometimes with butter (real butter).
I kinda gave up on PB&J, but if I had some good damson plumb jelly (my favorite) I would be back on them like flies on PB.
Next up would be JiF and Fluff. It's a litte sweet for me so only once in a while.

Aside from PB my favorite sandwiches are different versions of baked beans, cheese and hot dogs.
The big one would be buttered toast (have to butter it quick so it melts in).
2 hotdogs grilled and sliced length ways and layed on the toast.
Cover with a generous amount of hot left-over baked beans.
Lay a slice of sharp american cheese on top to melt and top with the other slice of toast.

It's great too without the hotdogs and just microwave the sandwich on toast if your in a hurry.

It's truley an gift from the Gods :D I want one now

I love peanutbutter, sometimes you will catch me eating it with just a spoon, but I am not a huge fan of jelly. I like all natural, organic foods, and typically jelly has to much crap in it that it's not even fruit anymore. A lot of jelly will have high fructose corn syrup making it not much different than pop, it's just not good for you. I do love a good peanutbutter, and honey sandwhich, that is one of my favorite snacks.
