HD Homerun

Post by [JiF]KellysHero »

You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

I don't have one, but I've seen a lot of talk about them working pretty well.

I've been looking into this thing...I believe I will get one in the next month or two. Seems to be one of the better options to get Clear QAM channels to my htpc, plus it will add 2 more tuners. :)

I'm going to get the AppleTV.....seems the better deal compared to the Homerun.

They aren't competing products. The HDHomerun is simply a networked HD Tuner that allows you to watch HDTV on any pc. The AppleTV is basically a crippled HTPC..but that's just my opinion. 8)

woops..my bad Mike. I thought the AppleTV could be networked also. :(
But supposedly after the new update (AppleTV 2.0) it's not crippled anymore.

Circuit City is having a special on the WinTV-HVR 1600 tuner card, normally $99 they are now $59. This card is capable of tuning clear QAM channels for HDTV. I'm headed to CC after work to see if I can get one. I would prefer the HDHomerun...but this is a lot cheaper, and will tell me what channels I get and let me watch them. I found a site that listed the channels I can expect in my zip code using a Clear QAM tuner and I should get the basic broadcast channels plus a few others. That's really all I want...so bye bye paying for HDTV from the cable company! :)
