team switch

Post by Splash0ut »

All,
just to clear the air. I seemed to take some alot of crap tonight for switching teams. I switched to play against BOSTON1440. If Boston and I are on the same team I will switch so i can snipe him. If i have to switch , I do it on my first death so i don't have to suicide. Most of you have seen me type " jif i'm going to switch so i can kill boston". If we are on the same team, the system is I will switch, rather then have us both switch back and forth until we are on different teams.

Boston is a work friend of mine. It's more fun to knife him then play with him, Morning bragging rights and all.

I did not mean to get "smart" tonight, but I have been playing in your server daily for months now. You can tell by my scores I'm not trying to cheat or gain some advantage.

Anyway, I know there are lots of sneaky people that play BF1942. I just play to kill BOSTON1440 and who ever else happens to get in front of my scope is a bonus.

Splash,

I was on last night while all this was going on. Here's my thoughts:

Please dont take what some of the comments that admints were making to you as "crap". That wasn't their intent.
I don't think they felt you were doing it to take advantage of the situation either.
They were just concerned that the number of people on each side was getting too uneven, and they just happened to see you switch (ie. wrong place, wrong time concept!).
It was more about "balancing the sides" to keep the match more fun (we don't have autobalance on so it can get ugly, in general, if people just start "switching over in mass").

Think of it more like a football game, when a lineman knocks someone over and the ref doesnt see it.
Then the other guy retaliates and the ref actually sees this and flags him instead!!!

So, in summary, don't think it was a personal shot at you, but more as a whole just trying to keep the sides even in number.

The specific admint in question I know well and really believe he was just trying to keep it fun.

To help, In the future, he (or you) can just request nicely, other players to kindly switch if you really want to remain on opposite side with your bud... :)

I'm hoping this clears the air for all and hope we can end this thread quickly... ;)

Splashout. Waterboy's post addresses most of the reason behind the question last night regarding team switching. The JiF server has both Coop and Conquest maps so auth-balance has to be disabled (it doesn't work with Coop). This means that people can play with unbalanced teams.

When teams become unbalanced it no longer becomes fun to play BF1942 and there's a reason why Fun is included in our group's name. This is particularly true at the start of maps.

Regardless of why you switched your change caused teams to go from 12v11 to 13vs10. You may be a slower loader so when you first joined you may have switched but at that time the Axis had just capped all 3 flags and had begun spawn camping (which also isn't fun but isn't aganist the rules) so I wanted to check before any formal warnings. Because you unbalanced the team I switched from Axis to Allies in order to get it back to a balanced game.

Your explanation is fine and no one has a problem with you switching to get a chance to kill your friend - just make sure that if you're both teamed up at the start that you don't switch until it won't unbalance teams. People drop off and join all the time so it shouldn't take too long before you get to switch.

I was giving BOSTON1440 a hard time about a shot I killed him with from about 4 miles away, also discussing the other nights events. Both agree we only play in other servers when yours is full. All a good group of people.

Sly this was not an attack on you or jif.

You get home from work, eat dinner with the family (shovel the driveway again) then grab a beer and relieve some of the days stress by dropping bombs, and killing. Then, 2 games into it have someone tell me "you won't be playing here very long". I'm sure you can see where tempers could start to flare.

All in all I usually request to switch. I'll try to remember in the future. My goal was to let let you know why I switched. I took 4 direct bombs the other night while I was stopped getting into it during the game, and that was not fun.

As far as Lonewolf goes. You have made for entire bad days with BOSTON. His whole week depends on his score with you. I guess when I leave you become his next biggest enemy.
