Just outside the warranty...
Well my 20 inch Dell 2001FP Ultrasharp LCD monitor has developed a gray vertical bar. It's 1.5 inches wide and goes from the top to the bottom of the screen. Luckily I can only see on a white background, so if it stays that way, no biggie. Normally when you purchase from Dell they keep everything on file, but the monitor isn't there. A computer I purchased 7 years ago is though. They checked and couldn't find my order and they even checked the serial number and said it was just outside the three year warranty. A week or two ago I threw the original box away, and I do recall even seeing the invoice not too long ago. And my initial thought to seeing the invoice, oh, I don't need this anymore...

How did you pay for it? Might be able to find your credit card record or check and determine the purchase date from that.

Good idea Grimp! Should have that info from American Express in the next 24 hours. The build date on the monitor is Nov. 2004, but I really think it's going to be close on the warranty date. I recall Dell was doing their, Dell Elf campaign around Christmas, each day you could get a different discount. I managed to get 25% off and free shipping.[JiF][AARP]Grimp wrote:How did you pay for it? Might be able to find your credit card record or check and determine the purchase date from that.

Got my amex statement, I was charged on Jan 8th, 2005. Usually Dell starts the warranty when they ship the system and they don't charge until they ship. So more than likely missed the deadline by 6 days. I did email Dell with the info, not likely to get any help. One good thing though was it only took a few minutes to get through on the phone and did speak with someone who spoke flawless English.
