Make sure you completely uninstall your old drivers. I tried a tool to remove old drivers at guru3d last time I swapped cards and it solved many of the issues I had If you feel courageous it is here: http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=driversweeper. I also found I had to reinstall DirectX to get BF1942 to work.
Lastly - a new video card is not an acceptable excuse for poor play. Look at Waterboy, he's been trying to blame his entire system for his play for years and nobody's bought it. So he went out and got a whole new system and now he's blaming it! For shame! However, if do you get the better of me in a game we both know it's all due to your fancy smancy new card and I'll tell everyone so.

I think you can get a remval tool from ATI to make sure they get cleaned out.
This may not make sense but, after your get te vid drivers set try reinstalling you sound drivers an then DX.

depending upon WHAT your crash looks like, I doubt the vid card driver is the issue, unless that's the ONLY change that has been made since the crashes started. was the card the only change on the system? did you just install the game on this rig?
if you are getting a BF1942.exe failure (like me), I'm wondering if its more of the DirectX, PB, or another portion of the install (like Badge & Grimp also mentioned).
Mine was a so-called "clean install" on a brand new system with all the latest & greatest drivers and still have the issue.
I havent tried to resolve mine yet...not important enuff to care about right now...

Okay, I can play games now but still have a few other issues.
I went to this sight (http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=driversweeper) as suggested.
I had to install the Omega 7.12 Driver.
Thanx Badger!
My only other problem is random lag.
This could be just my DSL causing this.
This usually lasts about 10 seconds after spawn.(not always)
I tested it out on BF2 at highest settings and had some (stutter stepping)random chop and when i tried to use a scope the screen turned black.
There was 1 tank that was totally white.
I'll have to get some screen shots.
I played BF42 last night and it worked good except for the above mentioned lag.
Oh, forgot to mention i had to upgrade to a 380 watt power supply, the card requires 350 watt.
It was what i could afford with my wifes permission.
Thanks again for all the help!
You guys are great!

Re: ATI HD2600XT
After some frustration and a lot of work, i have returned the video card.
There were just has too many small issues for me to deal with.
I will be purchasing a Geforce 6600 or whatever i can get cheap with an agp plug.
Updating my PC with a high dollar agp card is just not wise now.
I'm going to wait and get a dual or quad core for my birthday.
Thanx again for the help.

Update!
I bought a EVGA 7600GT Superclocked at Newegg.
My son uses a 6600 on the kids PC.
I am glad to be back on my own PC.

Re: ATI HD2600XT
I wouldn't be surprised if that was PunkBuster related - on my old notebook their new software architecture has quite a bad impact on performance, also sometimes causing random lags.[JiF]cannedcorn007 wrote:(...) This usually lasts about 10 seconds after spawn.(not always) (...)
