Well I tried it or a least I tried to try it. It’s not been pleasant.
NVIDIA has released several drivers for my video card but they are truncated at best. As a result I can only play BF2 with much lower video settings and no AA. It looks like junk and stutters and stumbles like a drunk. Hardly inviting. (I won’t tell you how annoying it was to get it working in the first place)
Creative has finally released a working, albeit restricted driver for my sound card - an Audigy 2ZS. They failed to do so for any of the Beta releases but they managed to cobble a working one together for RC1 – three weeks after its release but better late then… Minimal sound card support means just that, noise comes out but it is a lower quality then expected. Of course the mic doesn’t work, meaning you can’t communicate with the rest of the world, just listen in er, sort of.
Of course Logitech has announced my Web cam is not among the few chosen ones, which will be blessed with Vista drivers and therefore must be replaced. Typical, it must be at least a year old.
As a result I haven’t been able use Vista much - not that’s a bad thing. Their idea of security seems to be asking the user again and again if they really want to do that? Half the things I do in a normal sitting require me to press the Are you certain button? again and again. It’s not so much security as it is annoying.
For reasons I can't determine Vista can not open files on a partition made by XP x64, it can see the files but can'y open, copy or move them. I deleted the partition, recreated and reformatted it but Vista still won't acknowledge it. It can read a second partition created on the same drive but not this one. I can read all three partitions when I boot up in x64 but not when I boot in Vista. All partitions on my system are NTFS so why can Vista only read two out of three?
Anyhow, with so many things not working I haven’t been able to actually use it much. Anyone else had any luck with this thing?
