BF1942 Install Help

Post by [JiF]LtWaterboy »

Okay guys....

It has been a while.

Just gave my nephew & niece my old computer system which I used to play BF1942 on.

Need to do a clean/full install of the game on the new "beast"... ;)

Which patch(es) do I all need? Is it just the 1.6.19 full install patch?

I plan to install just the base game plus RTR & SWOWWII exp packs. no other mods or versions.

Hey LT!

As far as I know the 1.6.19 is the most current, so it should be all you need?

Now a question for you LOL!!!

Do you know how to get the kick vote and the add/remove buddy features to work?
Mine don't for some reason and I can't seem to find anything related to it on fileplanet, so any help would be appreciated?

Thanks FT.

For the kick part,

the way I always remembered doing it, was to hit the tilda (~) key, and type in kick (NAME OF PERSON YOU WANT KICKED).

I cant remember if it is a [SPACE] or an underscore (_) after the word kick.

In regards to the buddy portion - I have no clue. I thought that was done through AllSeeingEye (ASE) or that software, not in the BF42 game itself.

I'll check and repost if I find something different.

FT,

Goto this link:

talks about the kick and buddy list commands. I think my kick comments was slightly off... ;)

Here's another one. Goto the console commands section:

My kick command was correct, and it was the easier way!!! ;)

FT - Most people use Q-Tracker now for buddy tracking. ASE used to be the most popular until Yahoo bought it and basically dropped support of it. Q-Tracker has a friends list and best off has the ability to auto-join a server that is full when a slot opens.

But don't tell anyone about that last part. ;)

LT Thx,

I'll check those out A.S.A.P?

Stinky you are correct LOL!!! but I also wanted it for when an admin is not present, cuz it does get trying at times with the pubes? LOL!!!

And last but not least Sly, thx for the info and will a simple google on it bring me to the right page?

Oh and btw if you guys or anyone else notices I'm MIA it's because this crate is acting up on me, I received an error message earlier today something "data different than server" and I couldn't get back onto the server so I tried a reinstall of BF incase maybe something just got glitched. Instead now I can't even load BF and let alone install it, so I'll be out till I figure out WTH is going on and in the mean time I'll try and touch base back here with everyone, ok?

THX again guys!

Hey LT,

I think I may have been in error when I said the 1.6.19 was all you needed, the bf1942_v1.[1].6_to_v1.61 may also be required and maybe yet there might still be another? I'm still unable to log onto the server "wrong version" so I'm not really sure what's what here but if you (or anyone else) figure it out please give me a heads-up, ok?

Thx!

FT,

it looks like there was a small patch (6.4 MB) AFTER the 1.6.19 big one (267 MB).

the small one is 1.61b

I think those are the only two needed.

try that.

LT

ps. havent had a chance to try & reinstall yet... doing a virus scan

I concurr with LT.
I just installed BF1942 on my new vista box and those were the only patches I needed.

I have a lot of problems running on vista. I get frequent crashes. I tried running in "XP compatability Mode" but that does not seem to help much.
I seems if I have other apps open, its worse, so I am going to try some of the command line memory settings so the game gets more memory allocated to it.
