What your home network like?
What your home network like?
I was just looking at my home network the other day and realized how out of control it is. I'm sure I am not alone.
My network consists of the following:
Firewall:
ClarkConnect Community Edition (linux based firewall with vpn and loads of other features)
-Network Connections-
Mike's Desktop
Mike's Wifes Desktop
Mike's Sons Desktop
Mike's HTPC
Xubuntu Linux Server for file serving, torrenting, free wap proxy, and hlstatsx database for tf2
Mike's XBox 360
Mike's Sons XBox 360 (his big xmas present this year...happy kid!)
Wireless Access Point
-Wireless Connections-
Wireless HP All-in-One Printer
Wife's Laptop (used occasionally)
Mike's Work Laptop
Wireless print server for Epson R200 printer
There must be a group for people like me, if not...maybe there should be. Plus I just ordered an 8-port gigabit switch and nic so I can easily transfer those big video files to my htpc. NewEgg.com has the 8 port switches now for $36.49 with free shipping.

Re: What your home network like?
FIOS FTTP terminates in their Actiontec wireless router. From there I have an open WiFI connection that allows my wifes Nintendo DS and my Apple iTouch (FREaKING SWEET! New GIFT!) to access the web. Off the Actiontec I have several ports forwarded to my Linksys WirelessG router that is running WPA for my laptop, my wife's, and for guests that we give the 64bit Hex code to.. Hooked directly to the Linksys are my main PC, and my gaming PC.

Yep! I didn't realize it had gotten to this point until recently! My home network is more complex than most office networks I work on lol.Sir Die-a-lot wrote:Hmmm Mike, Do you remember what the outdoors look like ?

Re: What your home network like?
Speaking of home networks, what would be a good wireless router to get? Found out recently that CompUSA is closing down and starting to liquidate their inventory. Typically only seeing 5-15% off right now, but what should I be looking for in a wireless router? They had a lot of them and I figure by Monday should be able to get a great deal on one.

As for wireless routers, look for one that is Linux based if you can.
