Another with computer troubles
So, this problem seemed to have started a month ago. I would leave my computer running for a while, such as when I was sleeping or stepped out for the day, when I would come back, it seemed like it wasn't waking from screensaver. Shut it off, turned it back on, it was all set.
However, last Friday (the friday before last) it was happening more frequently. Then Saturday, it was happening every 20 minutes... every 10 minutes... every 2 minutes.. now does it when I turn it on. I hit the power button, fans spin up, video hooks (monitor tries to readjust to the refresh rate) then the monitor disconnects and the computer doesn't POST.
One thing particular I noticed was when this was happening every 20 minutes or so, I began to notice the effects of what was happening when it "lost video connection." Since I was using the computer, I noticed that when the video dies, the fan on the video card spins up to max RPM (or beyond)--it becomes three times louder none the less. After that when I look from another computer, I notice that the computer lost network connectivity.
Here's my idea of could likely be the problem (from most likely to least likely):
1. PSU
2. Motherboard
3. CPU
4. Videocard
Unfortunately, I don't have any test parts to try all of this out on!
Any input? What do you guys think could be the problem?
Thanks

I would try PSU, memory, vidcard, processor. In that order. Doc just replaced his 939 AMD 64 with a dual core so he has a spare if its supported by your board and want to try it. Other things I may be able to get you something to try temp as swaps if you give me the specs.

Oh, as I always do I suggest unplugging everything first. All drives and data connectors all fans except CPU. Basically physically disconnect everything except what you need to get into the bios and see if it comes up. Let it run in bios a while (if it comes on) and watch the CPU temp. If it does not come on try swapping PSU, the removing individual memory if you have more than one. Then swap the vid card.
One more thing, before you try everything else physically unplug the PSU from the wall for a few minutes then plug it back in and try it.

Re: Another with computer troubles
So the unlucky winner ended up being my video card. I was able to test all parts after my roommate bought/built a computer for a friend of his. I somehow found time to send the video card out under warranty 2 weeks ago and they have determined it is faulty and I should be receiving a new card on Wednesday. Woo!
