Secondary Drive Not Found Error

Post by [JiF]LtWaterboy »

Ok guys,

re-hooked up my old computer. I put the DVD burner drive back into the slot. Looks like everything is snuggly attached (including the CD-Rom drive that sits above and is also connected to the IDE cable).

I went to start up the system but get a secondary drive not found error.

given option of F1 or F2 (to go into setup utility).

$64MM question:

What should the two CD/DVD drives be configured as?? Hardrive is the primary master.

Thoughts??

LT

ps. everything else is back working on the computer - just not recognizing my drives!! :(

Ok. Quick update.

Left Primary Slave OFF, secondary master to AUTO and secondary slave to AUTO.

AUTO's became unknown devices, then later on reboot bcame CD-ROM.

The DVD now works (under drive E:), Drive F shows another DVD, and drive D: Local disk has a Question Mark.

Under device manager, it appears to recognize the Liteon CD-Rom Drive, but has a triangle with exclamation point. Tried a few times to uninstall and run Hardward Wizard to no avail.

Any new thoughts now??

You tried to uninstall through the device manager? If no, give that a shot - just right-click on it and do Uninstall.

Yep.

Did that. Many times...no luck....

Did one better...

Right clicked it...and chucked it into the trash can!!

kept getting a Code 10 device can't start error. There are no real drivers that I could find at Lite-On and all my connections were good.

Since it was only $20, thought I'd start from scratch...

When you say auto, do you mean CS, Cable Select?
When in doubt, I always set the jumpers specifically to Master & Slave

No.

When u switch the drive in the BIOS, it gives you only two options: OFF & AUTO.
Once you "boot through", if it recognizes it, it then switches AUTO to CD Rom, or whatever, the next time you enter BIOS.

I left the clips alone (same as they were before). I think I actually damaged it pulling out a disk with a screwdriver (when I had it pulled out of the tower case & left a disk in it).

Again, not worried about it now. going to Tigerdirect to get another one.
