Computer Troubles Again!

Post by [JiF]rIot »

I was playing Episode 2 when every 20 seconds it would freeze for 5 seconds, after doing that a couple times I saw this...and I dont think thats supposed to be in the game. I also noticed my CPU usage was 100%...is this too much for my CPU?

Yeah, but I've been running DVI for a long time now, unless somethings happened I don't know why the poop would hit the fan now

Check to see if your vid card is getting to hot. From your description and the pic to me that would be the first thing I would check.

my vid cards reach up to 75 C, whats a good method for keeping these things cool! I have a 25" fan on the side of my pc to attempt to cool. I have it blowing in, is this a good idea or should it be blowing out, I also have rigged a fan on the front of my video cards blowing to the back, and removed the metal slot covers in the back of the case and have a fan mounted there as well blowing out. I cant think of anything else!

I don't believe a fan blowing against the case will have much effect. Have a look at some case cooling guides http://icrontic.com/articles/pc_airflow ... ling_guide
or http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1 ... 899,00.asp I found that adding a single exhaust fan in the back of the case solved my cooling issues. Anymore then that and the noise levels become unbearable.

And if that doesn't help try this - Toms Hardware cooking oil cooling system. http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/01/09/ ... _the_fans/

Heres what my cooling system looks like:
I have 2 fans blowing in from the very front, and the one taped to the back is an exhaust fan, there is also another exhaust fan on top of that. The very large fan is blowing in.

This fan is blowing in between the two vid cards towards the exhaust fan:

With all of that you are disrupting the airflow which hurts your cooling. I'm not sure what case you have but they are usually designed to have maximum airflow cooling with the side panel on. I know on my case that my PC runs hotter with the side panel off, I think it was running around 38c when I was working on it with the panel off and when I was done I put the panel on and it runs right around 32c.

I haven't been able to find any drivers to check the temps on my vid cards since I went to Vista but with XP they ran around 58c and when the fan went out on one it got up to 86c before I could shut it down but it was to late as it already burned up the GPU. If your PC runs hot enuf that you need all of those fans to keep it cool I would seriously consider going to water cooling.

As good rule of thumb for air cooling is (and this is just a rule to start with and work from there) the same number of fans blowing in is the same number as those blowing out. Example: 2 fans in the front blowing in and 1 fan in the back and 1 fan in the top blowing out is a good starting place and then work from there.

But look at that case! Resistance is futile! Has your case ever tried to assimilate you?

lol, its just a normal case!

And also, I put the side on and everything went up like 3 to 4 degrees at idle, so I went back to the fan. I'm gunna get a tower case, I don't think theres much room for airflow. :?
