Ah, the Nokia Internet Tablet
So, I caved in and followed Grimp and picked up one of these with the money I got for my birthday (and change saved up):
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... &CatId=228
The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet.
After Grimp showed me what the N770 was capable of: great Wifi (The N800 even has a built-in webcam), great battery, Linux, and the fact that the N800 improved on everything that the N770 failed on--convinced me to buy it. It should be here next Monday and that will be the time I will be able to play it. Judging by some technical specifications, it should be capable of using EAP-TLS so I should be able to use it here at school luckily.

Ziggy's 770 broke right after he got it. After waiting forever for a part they sent him a new 800 instead
Mine is still running just fine

Re: Ah, the Nokia Internet Tablet
I have received my Nokia N800!
It is fantastic and I'm pretty glad I "bought" it. The only thing that I don't like is the fact that it fails in the EAP-TLS department
The Certification Manager isn't up to par and the network connection utilities are not very good.
However, an option I have is to compile wpa_supplicant on Maemo (the Tablet's OS) with the correct driver and try to get it to work (doubtful ).
What's this all mean? I just can't use it while I am at school
I guess I shouldn't complain when I got the device for FREE! Yeah, I ordered it off of Tigerdirect. When I did, they charged my account for the amount of the tablet.. then for some odd reason they credited the amount back a few hours later.. so I have my N800 in my hand without paying a cent

Cool. I am surprized your having connection problems mine always seems to work great.
Then again I don't think I have used it on any really secure network.

Re: Ah, the Nokia Internet Tablet
The network here is the most complicated thing I've seen. Involved 3 certificates, a RADIUS server and EAP-TLS. It sucks (in terms of the n800)
(BTW: I finally got charged a 2nd time for it.. what would've happened if I canceled my account during that period.. )

Ziggy found a Palm virtual machine for Nokia http://www.access-company.com/products/gvm/
I am investigating getting Cachmate http://www.smittyware.com/palm/cachemate/ working. So far Cachmate works, but I gotta figure out how to convert GPX files on the Nokia though.

Re: Ah, the Nokia Internet Tablet
After a little messing around I managed to turn my Nokia into a Palm.
I downloaded the Palm Desktop for my PC which helps. You can sync the Nokia/Palm via IP.
The only advantage I can see is there are tons of programs for Palm OS which I may now be able to run.

Re: Ah, the Nokia Internet Tablet
Ziggy showed it to me. He has a Palm Garmin GPS. Its cool for paperless geocaching. You can download a query of say all caches 25 miles from your house via a GPX file from http://www.geocaching.com (might be a premium member thing) convert the file and add it to Cachemate and use it for information rather than printouts. You can also use it to keep a log for your finds until you get back to your PC.

Re: Ah, the Nokia Internet Tablet
*rises out of the ruins of his final exams*
So, now that I have a chance to play with it (and visit the forums for that matter) it's pretty good. I'm hoping the OS 2008 will fix the network issues I have been having with my school. I'm also installing (or was installing until I had my computer problems last month) the OS2008 developer's kit so I can compile my own programs for it.
