Kicked & Banned? 10/18 @ 7pm, Est.
A few minutes ago, I TKed a guy who was shooting at me from across a river (liberation of caen), and was kicked. (maybe by an admin?) Now when I try to connect it's saying "failure to connect to server." I'm guessing that means that I'm banned. If someone knows what's up please let me know.. How long am I banned for and all that stuff. I really had no choice the guy was killing me, but it is what it is. Thanks.

It might be another issue. If you were banned it would say 'banned' not "failure to connect to server". Were there any JiF tagged guys playing when it happened? I'll go check the admin thingy and see what is there.

You aren't on the banned list. Try again and let us know if you have problems. And please don't intentionally TK. If you have a problem ask for an admin. If none are present, post here with the details and a screenshot if available. Then the admins can keep an eye on the guy.

Waterboy was there I believe. It's just now let me back after about 30 mins. I don't mean to be sarcastic, but it can be dog-eat-dog in there without admins. If I just let folks finish TKing me, you guys would have a lot of screencaps and it would just make the play MUCH less enjoyable. I only do that when I honestly screw up or if someone is clearly going to kill me, and I don't like doing it at all. I try to get their attention first but after 2/3 times in a map it really gets old. Thanks for checking it out 4 me!

I just checked with him in game. He didn't kick or ban you. You might want to try rebooting your PC. Can you join any other BF42 servers?

Lonewolf-McQuade,
If this hasn't cleared up let me know. There are some other things we can try. I can get on the server and see what the in-game message is for instance when you try to connect. Another thing to try is manually updating punkbuster.
I don't remember having this problem on BF42, but FH does it on and off.

Glad to hear that you got back in.Lonewolf-McQuade wrote:Thanks, I'm back in now. It was being weird for about 30 mins. Thanks!!!
Yeah - after we said hi, I kept seeing that one guy complaining and then all of a sudden you got kicked automatically.
It didn't give a reason other than saying something about auto kick by admint (which includes some magical system admint I guess!!).
There's a "wait" period after each type of kick/ban, so maybe you got the 30 min-1 hour one...
LT
ps. trust me, you will know if I ever kick or ban someone....ask Chris Lebowski.... well, guess you can't - I PERMANENTLY banned him after nicely requesting him to stop swearing a few times (f-word, n-word, etc), and then he taunted me with more foul language.... wrong move on his part.....

Yeah, I dunno what happened. Must've been something automated like you said. The guy was lighting me up so i shot back and killed em (not the best response I know!) Then he started complaining, which I basically ignored, and bang I was out. The weird part was that the server message wasn't a kick or ban msg. I actually got it again yesterday when the server booted everyone from a game. Maybe it's time for a defrag/restart or something =P

How does a ban vote get started? Seems like there are some bozos continually starting them for no reason, and it is a royal PITA to clear the screen when they come up.
By the way, other day we were on the Husky map and I was on the house porch, throwing grenades at the Axis spawn point near the bridge. An Allied player got pissed so after he died, he switched teams, came up behind me, TK'ed me, switched back to Axis and then bragged about it. I think someone initiated a vote and kicked him. I was too amazed someone would be so juvevile to be too angry about it. Luckily, this kind of thing is rare on the JIF server.

Well, one is is to tick me off.... that will start a quick process...Uncle Stinky wrote:How does a ban vote get started? Seems like there are some bozos continually starting them for no reason, and it is a royal PITA to clear the screen when they come up.

Stinky, I think you mean ' how does a kick vote start', cuz only the admints can do a ban.
As long as ther server is set to allow for it, anyone (ugh!) can start a kick vote. Go into the MAP screen or hit the tilda and type in kick_(insert name)
I think its as simple as that.
LT
ps. I was joking about the "tick me off" portion, but seriously, the admints take no guff when it comes to any cheating, intentional TK'ing and vulgar language. This will be a warning, then usually followed with a kick (for x period of time) if repeated. I usually don't like to babysit (takes away from MY fun of playing!), so I'll warn with the understanding that I will BAN the next time.
In regards to the situation u mentioned. You always run into that one person or so, who doesnt like it when a person sits at a box, or if they site at an uncaptureable (home) base. I try to inform that this is legal on our site, and if they can't get the person legitimately, then spawn at a different location. If that doesnt work, I just ask them if they would prefer another server then....

Yeah, you're right, I meant kick vote.
I've probably died 100 times already from someone camping a home base -- usually in a tank. Had a nightmare with this the other night on Gothic Line as the US. After 5 or 6 respawns as a bazooka-guy, I finally got him. Like the sever line says, "don't like spawn camping, defend your base."

Re: Kicked & Banned? 10/18 @ 7pm, Est.
Yeah more often lately there's a n00b or two that get a -5 score and manage to kill one or two enemies while continuously TKing folk too. They'll linger in the -'s for the entire game, and if there's no admin available I start getting tired of getting TKed! I will admit when I hoof it across an entire screen twice to get TKed by the same knucklehead, it's irritating! The nice thing about the kick vote is that when enough people get irritated with an inconsiderate player, we have the means to remove him! I would suggest that the wait interval between allowed kick votes could be increased, maybe doubled! That would limit the amount of disruption to players like me who don't like the constant voting.
Also, I prefer when people wait to make map votes until the end of a map, unless no-one is fighting/spawned or there's like 4 people playing. If i start playing a map for more than 10-15 mins, I like to try to finish it win or lose. But that's just me! THe map vote interval could probably be doubled or trippled.
